no sooner had I arrived home from the darts on Thursday my missus went up to the loo and had another seizure (some may of read on here she had brain surgery in June and spent 3 months in hospital)

Luckily the ambulance arrived in around 30 minutes

Now the ugly

She arrived at the hospital around 7pm, 8pm she's still in the ambulance when eventually she's triaged

8:30 they find a spot for her on the corridor

Fast forward to 7am the next morning she's finally seen

This is the same up and down the country

Speaking to the ambulance staff they used to average 9 jobs a day not so long ago, they are now doing 2 if they are lucky

Harrowing experience, with no light at the end of the tunnel for our health service

Just thankful I wasn't home an hour later or she'd have been alone with the little one downstairs

Can't stop playing that scenario out in my head

Anyway, please only go to a&e if you really need it.

Used to be a fantastic facility in Bolton.. Darley Court. It was a halfway house type place to free up wards..

Closed then pulled down due to "a faulty boiler", guarantee it will be houses soon..

Just one example of how bad management is causing issues.

My Grandma is currently in a&e she's been there since last night and is waiting for a bed on D1. 91 years old and sat on a trolley. She's not bothered, shes comfy and feeling better than she was.

The cynic in me thinks it's being broken on purpose.

It has occurred to me too before.

However, there's also a movement within the nhs management of self propagating wastage which needs addressing.

An example is the nhs confederation- a non productive group that isn't part of the nhs, which, nevertheless, nhs trusts pay millions into, out of their budgets. What does it actually do?

We're not getting value for money for the amount of money poured into it.

Sorry, being flippant.

It gets more money than ever, in line with many European countries, but with worse outcomes and worse outcomes after the pandemic.

It does seem broken, but what is the cure?

Assuming it’s underfunded;

More money? If so, how much?

Likewise hope your Grandma gets sorted.

Reply to you and @Tonge moor green jacket

I dunno if youre right or wrong, but again, theyve had 12 years to sort it

And the biggest issue, imo, isnt how much funding, its getting folk out of the hospitals

Probably not the time for politics chaps.

Sorry should word this as not the place.

I think one of the biggest problems with the NHS is that the lack of social care infrastructure means too many people end up occupying beds for too long - months at a time - and that the problem has only been exacerbated since COVID.

Anyway, in July 2021 I was referred to the local neurology department and hadn't heard anything since, so I just presumed I'd fallen out of the system or something. The week before last, I received a letter from the local neurology department and expected it to be confirmation of my appointment.

It was actually just a letter checking whether I still required the appointment as the waiting list was still very long and they were hoping to trim it down a bit by weeding out those who no longer needed an appointment.

Almost eighteen months since referral and still no sign of an appointment being booked in.

That's not good.

@L/H White - I hope everything gets sorted at your end mate, and your 2023 is better than your 2022, what you posted above sounds horrendous

@L/H White - hope she's on the mend now. Must have been an awful time! A&E really is on its arse. Not enough beds to move people into because there's not enough people being discharged because there's not enough social care for them to move into.

Bit of a vicious circle here: some of the extra money allocated to helping social care has initially been used to help clear backlogs in hospitals. However they can't then release some of the patients once fixed!

Perhaps some changes needed there for sure.

@LH white hope the wife on the mend, keep pushing specialists, GP or whoever to check, check and check her again, make a nuisance of yourself and make sure she gets the best treatment and outcome … remember you can visit any NHS trust in the country, do your homework and get the best specialist out there and ask your GP for a referral.

We've been asked to "bridge the gap" between patients being discharged home to carers starting to visit. We can't get our own work done, never mind this too. Bank Holiday just gone I had 12 visits (min 30 mins each) to do in 6 hours. How i did it I will never know.

Sorry, Tombo
