Oh dear. I last saw footage of that game from the dock in Barnsley magistrates court!

I heard their 3rd go in as about 20 of us Wanderers fans were handcuffed inside a Police van behind that embankment.  Great header from Stevens that for our goal

Must be some footage of the trouble knocking about then. It's not on my tape ... but then I suppose the boys in blue didn't use Dave's tapes to provide their evidence in court! 🙂

I was sat with their chairman, John Dennis, in the main stand - we were both fruit & veg wholesalers. He was going mad about all the trouble saying how disgusting it was while I was shouting 'Go on lads, get in there! 🤣

😂

I had a colleague who a few years later joined the Police over there. He said years later Barnsley FC and the bobbies were still saying they dreaded it when Bolton were in town!

That barnsley game went in van and we stopped at a local pub about as far as Starkie was from Burnden. Went in and it was rough as fuck. Just thought oh well keep my head down and might get out alive. Sat there nursing my pint then some cock decides to try and sell Bolton scratch cards to local whippet shaggers. Not impressed and were told to leave before we got a 'Barnsley Smile'. Got back to van and coppers told us to walk to ground or we'd be nicked. Had to walk all way thru their town centre. Very very lively there and back but thats another story

Cheers for the footage Paul, nice one mate.

On this clip, 1 minute 25 seconds in, are we the opposition at Old Trafford ?

I can't find any evidence that any of our games v United in the 70s were televised either in Div 2 in 74/5 or Div 1 in the late 70s. Granada always did our games v City though!!

My theory about the bit at 1m 25 is that it's Liverpool in their old away strip.

In the clip it mentions Pearson , but according to my rothmans he didn"t play when they beat us 3-0 at their place in 1974/75 , hope this helps.

If it's 74/5 that blows my Liverpool theory out of the water!

This is good for knowing who Granada televised back in the day

Nah, not derby

Probably fulham

That list for 74/5 has then at home to Fulham late season. I bet that's it. Bolton didn't get much of a look in at all other than the infamous Bloomfield Road game early on.

Most likely Fulham, looks like Peter Mellor in the sticks.

We were on about the 70s last night so here's a match from the middle of that decade. Highlights of Bolton 2 Chelsea 1 from 1975/6. Chelsea take the lead but Bolton win through two own goals, the second comical. Peter Thompson and John Byrom play!

That was one hell of a rough day at Burnden Park.

I can remember the 76/7 game with the pitch invasion and endless trouble. Finished 2-2. My Dad took me on the Lever End - was barely of Primary School age! This one is a year too soon for me. Was there trouble at this too?

Loads, to be fair the mob what piled in the Wagon and Horses were just kids, but pissed and boisterous with the cans they had on the special on the way up. A few pints later they wanted to take the world on at the ground.

Did they come unstuck then?

Saw battles everywhere on the ground and after the game, Chelsea had the edge that day. The following week Forest came down in numbers, and took a real hiding after the game on the corner of Manny Rd and Trinity St.

Not really.   I think that game was the return fixture from when we'd won 1-0 at Chelsea & Siddall ?? saved a penalty at the end just to wind them up a bit more. At the game ,we started off in the middle of the open end & finished up pressed against the fence in the corner , afterwards there was so much trouble round the coaches that the police made them leave & left several Bolton fans behind.

At Bolton, Chelsea turned up early in big numbers & there was trouble in a few pubs & then they went on the Lever End & got the better of things.

The only one with Chelsea I don't recall trouble at was Div 1 in 1979. When they came three times in Div 2 in the early 80s it was trouble every time.
