Southampton away. What a day/night. A reflection of that era tbh - hard to think that we’d take that many away again for a night match. Went with a mate who was a Derby fan. He couldn’t believe the atmosphere - best away match ever in his eyes. As usual though we cocked it up in the last minute - can see Felgate flapping even now.
Look a threat going forward for once. Great second goal. Still no confidence won’t ship more at the back. Much better though - shame but understandable not more here to see it. COYWM in the second half.
Never met Michael and probably never will, but “thank you” from the present generation of Wanderers fans, “thank you” from those no longer with us, and “thank you” from those yet to come. COYWM.
Fuzzy memory but in the 81-82 season didn’t we beat Derby at home in dramatic fashion 3-2 just before the Sheffield game to give us a chance of staying up? Can’t find any details but sure 1or 2 late goals - Wayne Foster? Either way wasn’t as “all in” as Sunday. Mental.
Wilbraham. The one person ever to wear the white shirt who makes Ian Moores and Gregor Raziak look world class. Hope to god he proves me wrong and he actually jumps off the ground today.
Sat in Burnden Stand that night as a 9 year old. Gutted. Remember the away leg more when Neil Whatmore scored near the end from a free kick - thought we were at Wembley. Seemed a bigger deal in those days.
Pretty sure I did all of 4 of them (plus the Leeds cup game) - only 9 at the time. Did the aways on travel club. Remember getting grief off Spurs fans at the league game at WHL as for some reason we were in their end. Highlight was the late winner at Burnden - Roy Greaves or John Ritson at the Embankmemt I think?
Youri had the biggest impact as he set the stage for the rest to come, JJ was the most gifted ....... but the "I need to pinch myself" moment for who wore the white shirt had to be Hierro given what that man had seen and done. Those Days are gone but at least we had them.
Missed it by a couple of weeks. First ever Wanderers game was March 13th that season against Plymouth at home. 0-0 but I do remember Hugh Curran I think having a goal disallowed. God knows where 40 years has gone. Never been dull though!
