2025 Holidays

So where’s everyone going?

St. Ives, Cornwall booked for early June.

Contemplating some winter/Easter sun.

We’ve sadly had to let our caravan go in Snowdonia, so won’t be having our usual few weeks there.

Yes he’s fine cheers, he was only out of the pool for a couple of days. CT scan confirmed he has no brain

  • Probably the right place to share a tale from our French trip that morphs into a recommendation. Armistice Day is a bank holiday in France and the commemorations are always on the 11th, not the S

  • I hope you manage to get back up here before the summer is out and I hope the wife makes a full and speedy recovery.

Added benefit of making it less likely they will holiday here.

Cape Town SA? Just avoid the city centre. Scariest place I’ve ever been. The Tourist area looked fine though.

Isan & Laos for a month on Tuesday.

Three middle of the night kick offs for us whilst were there which should be fun….

Top 2 on return would be great 👍🏻

Enjoy it M

Agreed

We drove up the coast and got lost, ended up in what the used to call a township.

Now that was fckin petrifying.

Went yesterday and plan on going back before we come home. Old Town is beautiful.

Staying in Stalos which is a 15 min bus ride away.

Decent weather, food and drink. Could live off stifado and Gyros.

Just spent 5 hours on a 16 seater mini-bus.

19 adults, 3 babies, one cockerel & numerous packages & parcels!!!!

Absolute fucking chaos.

The babies were being sick constantly and the air con was shocking in stifling heat.

You’ve just got to love rural Thailand.

😂😂

Sounds like a away game in the 90s

For those that have been to NYC. I'm going in May and need to start planning things to do.

Hotel is on 6th Ave, near Central Park so close to where its most busy.

Wanna see a sporting event. Knicks, Mets or Rangers. Would prefer NHL but think the season ends just before I go. Looks pricey though.

Daughter wants to see the Friends experience and maybe a show, Aladin has been mentioned.

Any sights that are under the radar worth seeing / visiting?

I would suggest doing the open top bus tour, just gives you a feel for the place, you jump on and off at the bits you want to see. It is a very touristy thing to do I hated the idea, my missus insisted, she was right. We did it first day and from there helped us decide which things we wanted to do over next 2 days.

Ground Zero and the little chapel there are very moving.

There are a couple of ticket booths that do one day tickets for events, there is one down by the river that the bus goes past where there are minimal queues.

Did not do any sports in NY but did the Baseball in Chicago, was brilliant, imagine other sports would be too.

Grand Central station is cool as fuck and there is a food mall down below that is good if you are doing the touristy bit to avoid wasting time.

Sure you won't be bothered about shopping but if daughter is go to Macy's and tell them you are tourists, you get a voucher so do not need to pay the full taxi.

It is a great place, but as you say you need to plan it, there are usually good deals if you book stuff in advance.

Nice one pal. Definitely look in the open top bus.

Ground Zero is on the list. Seems there's a lot to see around that area. Did you do the museum?

Baseball looks like it might be the cheapest option. Not paying $100 + to watch a basketball game.

Cheers for the Grand Central Station recommendation 👍🏻

I'll avoid Macy's if I can but thanks for the tip.

Not sure if this is what @Anii was on about but my mate has just come back and recommended this

Was there in January a couple of years ago and did one of the boat tours that do the loop around Manhattan Island.  Great trip and like the bus tours mentioned upthread, a great way to get your bearings but feck me - was the coldest I've ever been in my life.  The wind off the Hudson feels like knives on your skin!

Not sure the museum was open when we went, tbh it was quite emotional place to visit my missus was in bits

Baseball is pretty cheap as there are so many games, weird game but the Yanks are dead into it so just go with the flow.

We did a helicopter trip which was expensive but very good. Also went up the Rockerfeller (however it is spelt) centre rather than Empire State Building , mainly to avoid queues.

McSorleys is a very different pub worth seeking out.

Jimmy's corner for cheaper beer at night.

See the Statue of Liberty from the staten island ferry rather than tourist boat. Its free too (or was).

Stone Street near Wall St is worth seeing.

Boathouse restaurant in Central Park is a lovely spot for lunch. A bit pricey but you're paying for the setting.

Capital Grille near Time Life building do a fab theatre menu if you do a show near there

We used something similiar to pre book stuff, when in Jan are you going ? If the ice skating and tree are up in front of Rockerfeller Centre it is pretty cool, looks like a film set.
