I guess it depends what you’re comparing him to. If Traf then may be a bit unfair as he wasn’t ours anyway. I think they’ll do ok when held up against the other L1 keepers. If our keepers didn’t have the occasional fuck up in their game they certainly wouldn’t be playing for Bolton.

No comparisons

just wondered if folk had a preference off pre season

What are peoples thoughts on the goalkeeper spot?

Both had few dodgy moments in pre season but everyone’s going for Baxter but there doesn’t look much between them

To be honest, nothing I’ve seen from either of them so far inspires my confidence and I think are no better than Henderson

Don’t know if I’m having a blank moment here, but who is this Henderson?

All keepers do that, its the price for managers asking them to play out from the back, admittedly it doesn't always result in an immediate goal.  We all see it happen in the Prem most weeks and managers don't seem to mind, always coming out with the stock "he's saved us on many occasions" response.

@Whitesince63 I’m currently scouring the net for bwfc and goalkeeper “Hendersons”

is it:

Charlie Henderson (only Henderson BWFC player I can see from 1894)

United’s Dean Henderson

Jordan Henderson

Bigfoot and the Hendersons.  One of them?

🤣

I’m presuming he means Hutchinson.

Still as baffling a comparison as Henderson to me.

When was the last time @Whitesince63  or  anyone saw Hutchinson play?? Especially at the level and standard we need

On a serious note, dismissing Hutchinson/Henderson…

Baxter for me all day long. Made some really good saves against Everton.

Plus his pedigree and potential to do this at a level above L1 and the fact that he’s fit and raring to go makes it an almost certainty he starts Saturday.

I know of Hutchinson, but dont know anything about him, never seen him play, never seen any reviews about him, so cant pass any judgement whatsoever!

Baxter is not as good at shotstopping/handling as Trafford imo from the two games I’ve watched. Seen him palm a few shots that Traff would have caught. But he is plenty good enough to be a promotion winning L1 goalie, which is all that matters.

Trafford could be a bit rash with rushing out, such as Accrington away. Not been able to judge Baxter in that yet.

In terms of passing out from the back, that is always going to make any goalie look dodgy at times, Traff had a few nervy moments. Baxter will this season.

He has already given away a free goal from it in pre season and no doubt it will get us into trouble again but I won’t be part of the typical (but thankfully a minority) “stop fuckin around with it/gerrit forward” brigade. There is clearly a time where it’s better to be safe than sorry but it works well the majority of the time.

Hull supporting mate says he's a good shot stopper though it's his kicking that is suspect

Do we have to compare him to a player that was never ours? Can we not just judge him on his own merit?

Is he any good, is he good enough to get us out of this league - not arsed how good he is compared to Trafford, likewise our right wing back options for this year I don’t care how they compare to Bradley.

And to be honest that’s exactly what I’ve taken from the games I’ve seen. Besides, 90% of his kicking will be 5 yards to santos anyway so I’m quite content he’ll prove his worth through the season

They may not have been “ours” but they were our best two players last season so comparisons will always be made.

As I say Baxter is plenty good enough for what we need, as is Cogley imo
