Port Vale (A)

Hoping this will be my first away of the season if I can get tickets, but away capacity is less than it used to be.  We'll be in the Bycars End, the Hamil Road now occupied by Vale fans.

Not sure what capacity of Bycars is but less than Hamil Rd so not likely to be enough to satisfy demand.

£25 in home end for this game so presume same for us.

Port Vale fans are great at booing anything and everything, but don't get behind their team.

It's a great win.

Should provide a shot of confidence.

Hard fought but well earned three points. Clinging on for lat 20 mins. First away day for a while and just glad we got a return from it.

Also good to briefly meet @royal white in the pub before the game. Enjoy your evening mate 👍

Disagree. Probably his best league performance for us so far.

The two subs held the ball up last 10 and took a lot of pressure off . the lack off being able to change the midfield in the second half could of cost us all 3 especially Dempsey kept giving the ball away in bad areas

A huge win, not just because of their good early form but also in the circumstances of our injury troubles

Absolutely.

They defended so well in the 2nd half. For all their intent in the 2nd half Port Vale didn’t really create 1 clear cut chance.

Hope we have less talk about fitness, squad players not being good enough to get us points in this league and Evatt making excuses.

Win on Tuesday and the league table will be looking pretty good after 10 games.

You love to see it 😁

Hopefully don’t we play again Tuesday?

That pic- first thing I saw was the fella giving the "v"s and thought it was Evatt initially!

That's the type of win that's required if you're serious about the top two. The Reading game was the opposite. You'd hope that the Reading game led to the learning that went in to getting that result over the line today. Now it needs replicating several more times.

To continue to prove they have what it takes there can be no "after the lord mayor's show" on Tuesday. A scruffy 1-0 win would be fine. Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday - great and determination as well as the skill and the quality.

3 games in a week with the same starting eleven will be a test

Thomason will be available, and we don't know about Vic.

Bod may also start.

Thomason will be a good option off the bench . Would give Morley another start on Tuesday though he wasnt great  but we won and he just might need a run of games to get going hopefully

Great result, excellent first half but would have loved us to have tested the keeper more. Proper resolve as the game went on, fantastic. Thought the 2700 of us in the away end gave a decent account too.

Dion's goal well taken of course, but in general, I thought Nlundulu did really well at holding up and distributing - may have found his niche. Excited for the week now!

I thought Morley played well.

2 different sides to him today. Was linking up play nicely in first half when we were on top, he was seeing plenty of the ball and got a couple of shots away. Then in the 2nd half he did what he didn’t do against Wigan, he tracked back, he hassled, tried to break up play, getting a booking for his efforts.

I know this may sound like sacrilege to some, but currently Dan is better at holding up the ball and playing others in than Bod ATM. Ball is sticking to him and he's holding off defenders like a good 'un whereas Bod has struggled to do that both today and on Tuesday. Obviously Bod is the better finisher and more complete striker and Dan doesn't shoot enough, but there are phases of games when the other stuff - including Dan's superior workrate and target man skills - are needed, especially playing Evatt's way. Dan's improving and I can see why Evatt picks him in Vic's absence.

Bod made a big difference against Peterborough, and held it up quite well. Released some pressure.

Hanging on at the end a bit in both games, so likely that neither of the two would get too much of the ball.

Apparently off to take on a position within the Professional Footballers' Association.

First half totally in control.

Second half not at all.

We have a prolific striker and he’s won it for us.

It negates the Reading result as we prob deserved 1.5 points from each.

Glad to get back without aquaplaning on the M6. Horrific driving conditions.

Win the next 2 home games and it’s been an excellent start before the international break, especially considering the injuries.

Solid performance today, the back 3 and Baxter were were excellent, Cogley excellent going forward and though Morley had great game, 3 home games upcoming and 9 points would be fantastic.

The home/away imbalance is extraordinary. I know cancellations play a part but I've bever seen this before.

We have no more “knob heads” than any other club contrary to popular belief.

They have a fair few, it’s a big game for them & subsequently PV away can be tasty.

If we win it will be enjoyable and if we lose it won’t be.

We haven’t sold out because of a mixture of our recent poor form and the train strike although it’s a fair trek to the station.

Well I was pleasantly surprised, really enjoyable atmosphere, very positive, and more evidence of normal folk than anything unsavoury.  For the record, I never suggested we had more knobheads than other clubs, just that the awayday experience is different to playing at home, and not everyone's cup of tea when with family or older folk etc.  Today was great, no complaints from what I saw and I've only got good things to say about our support.  Playing well and winning helps of course, but a great afternoon out, apart from walking through town before and after the game in the rain. The only positive of that place is I really appreciate where I live even more than I did, Burslem's a shit hole, thank god I am home.
