Nowack Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 I thought they had a route from four lane ends, along the old train line that went down Derby St. Quote

Banning smoking is of benefit for loads of reasons, not just for the individual, but also for wider society. We only banned drink driving in the 1960's, do you think that was also "the thin end of the wedge" and taking away a freedom? I think drink driving was different, as it put others at risk. Smoking does affect others (family and NHS), so it’s not cut and dried about personal choice, but to ban it feels authoritarian. Quote

Need to dig out the details it based on what he was saying Sunak has basically left it so Labour are fucked when they get in. Quote

I also heard that he can't actually scrap it off his own back but only caught the end of the discussion. Also someone saying the new Euston would only have 6 platforms so no chance of it going beyond Brum, again not sure. Either way, it's a fucking mess and begs the question how long this has been planned for? Quote

Obviously this will eventually reduce the tax take the Government receives from ciggies (although I don't know how that offsets against cost to the NHS etc) It does seem odd to me that they'll increase the smoking age for cigs, but not for vapes (yet) - why not do them both at the same time? Quote The Conservatives have defended accepting a donation from the chief executive of a company accused of marketing vapes to children. They accepted a £350,000 donation from Supreme 8 Limited in May, records show. The boss of Supreme 8 is Sandy Chadha, who is also the chief executive of Supreme PLC, which markets vapes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66750824 Quote

It includes the metrolink extension to Manchester Airport that already exists so maybe they are paying twice for it? Quote

One of those things that will take possibly decades to determine whether it pays for itself. Still don't see how it's enforceable neither. It's OK saying use current i.d. but that would require your date of birth and those at the shop to work out whether you're old enough. It really shouldn't be hard enough to work out Quote
