Blackburn Rovers for me. Worthy's winning goal in '78. I stood on the Riverside terrace because the away end was full. Can't remember seeing much of the match because it was rammed, and I wasn't 6' 2" like I am now. I remember the walk back to the coaches was a monster. Was almost in Darwin when we boarded.

I had one at primary school in Burnley at got teased about it so I should have learned. .  In her second week of training two adults in Preston spent 60 minutes abusing her . She was so upset and scared that she never went back and lost all interest . I said I would go with her to every match and training session and that I promised it would never happen again but the damage was done to an 8 yr old girl .

In the mean time the little lad had his name changed so his surname wasnt mine . by this time their mum from Preston had remarried a blackburn fan , who didnt give a shit about football but encouraged the boy to play and go to games.  However alcoholic unfaithful mum has spent the last 13 years trying to raise him as a man united fan just to hurt me . 

The daughter has been to 2 games with me and the son 1  and each time I had to lie to get to take them to the football  at Wanderers.

Totally failed as a dad and it haunts me . 

Sorry to hear that mate but don't beat yourself up about it - sounds like it wasn't your fault anyway. Don't know how old your kids are now, but when they become independent and learn more about life, they'll probably be more willing to listen to your side of things - and relations can be rebuilt.

Aye. Used to be a group of us. Dad, uncles (some actual, some my dad's mates who I called 'uncle'). I was pretty safe. I presume it was to get me indoctrinated and give my mum some time to herself. I remember a lot of those away trips: In 77/8 we did Hull away and Stoke away as well as Burnley on the first day. Remember very little about the games, just being there. The stands and the colours the teams played in. Breaking down  on the motorway in my uncle's Cortina on the way back from Stoke is a distinct memory!

Tbf I can remember a lot about games I went to around 5 or 6. Dont remember the games but the fans and stuff.

Remember it all going off on Wembley way after Tranmere, Id have only been 6 or 7.

I find with games from years gone by you remember a certain event in the day rather than the result

All I can remember about being 4 was standing in a tin of white paint in my new black school shoes and my mum bursting into tears.

 

My first away was  versus Cardiff, at a neutral ground, which was West Brom, after draws at ours then theres in the FA Cup 1972/73 ish. Won 1-0,Stuart Lee scored, snowed like fuck!

They are all fleeting memories rather than remembering whole games. I remember a lot more about 77/8 than 76/7. The group my Dad went with moved to the Manny Road stand having previously gone in the Lever End. My main memories of the Lever End days were being bought a carton of orange  before games and being lifted over the turnstile without my Dad paying. I do remember being knocked to the ground by marauding Bolton/Chelsea fans on the Lever End in spring 77 and my Dad nearly getting arrested for getting hold of the bloke who did it. We watched that game from the Wing Stand and that's why we ended up in the Manny Road from there onwards. 

I'm glad I saw those days. My Dad remembers them really well and its a good topic of conversation with him. I can do that with 80s/90s stuff with him but his memory/detail of those years aren't as good.

 

Barnsley, April 1972, first full season of watching us (had started going part way through the previous season, although it was a grim one I'd got the bug). We lived in Rochdale at the time so not a bad trip over with my dad. We lost 0-1 but the Bovril and Wagon Wheel were good

My first away was Vitoria Guimaraes. Not a bad first trip full stop. First league game was Boro away the same season, 3-1 down with 10 mins left, pulled it back to 3-3 and conceded in the 92nd to lose 4-3.

My eldest's first away was losing 1-0 at Oldham under Parky. Yet to take the youngest away as he's bloody feral. I reckon he'll fit right in with a lot of ours!

I started at 5 (1974 before the smartarses start), best mate's dad used to take me & my mate on dad 'n' lads tickets.

My very first game was in 1962. I was 5. Played (& lost) to some red shysters from Salford. I was on the Embankment with my dad & was perched on one of the barriers. I remember f'call of the game apart from dad complaining reds were mixed in with us, some scuffles when they scored .... & the coal shale.

A bag of Haribo and a word with the Steward on the gate not to allow them to escape and we were all good. 

They'd eventually take a mini football and play 8 or 9 a-side.

An eventful game, vividly recall conceding early from a corner right in front of us, and the ref getting dogs abuse all game for Tomo’s straight red on Kenna early doors.

Highlights don’t show, but Blakey missed a sitter clean through which would’ve made it 2-2 (a point would’ve kept us up that season), moments before they went down the other end and scored a third.

My dad could barely see (I was stood on my seat) and he was already celebrating as if Blake had scored.
