Your first (or kids) away

Needs a thread on its own.

Blackburn Rovers for me. Worthy's winning goal in '78. I stood on the Riverside terrace because the away end was full. Can't remember seeing much of the match because it was rammed, and I wasn't 6' 2" like I am now. I remember the walk back to the coaches was a monster. Was almost in Darwin when we boarded.

Late 60's for me I think, Preston away on a double decker LUT bus. I can't remember the actual scoreline but I think we had a good win.

My dad wasn't a big football fan but my mum was. My dad used to drive us about in the car to aways, but never went in. He was an expert in getting around places like Bristol York Rotherham and Mansfield though.

That game at Bristol- was it the game where one of the teams had 20 odd corners or some strange stat?

No idea just remember it being knee deep in piss round the back at HT 🤣

Mine was v bury for my birthday in 99 with my mate and my cousin. Pretty sure we did kids and flids and they just parked in Breightmet and made us walk in, felt like miles. For a Bromley Cross lad it was a piss take. Lost but we beat them at home.

My lads was Oldham in the parkie league 1 promotion season. He'd been to a good few games in the LOV at this point so surely the away end would be OK... Wrong. Was there with the Mrs who was 5 month cheggers at this point. 5 mins before kick off he's got his hands over his ears saying it's too loud. We left at half time. Lost 1 nil in the second half. But we beat them at home.

Daughter hasn't been to a proper away day apart from Wembley this year. Ear defenders in tow! 🤣

We didnt score that day

Sunday, lost 1 0

Being one of the younger ones on here, I think it was Chelsea away in 2008, last game of the season. Matty Taylor last minute equaliser.

My lad has less than no interest in coming to the footy with me offered to take him whilst his grandad is over in Oz visiting my brother but got a stoney face NO.

I’m blessed with my lad- his first game was on the way home from his 2nd bday hols… didn’t actually turn 2 until the day after. Just loves the ball

waiting on test results to see if he’s actually mine like

Wasn't it the start of a turnaround in form or something like that?

The 1-1 draw at Bath was the one where we had 20 corners, not one of them a threat! Paul Comstive doing the same corner routine each time.

Making me feel very old this thread ya bastards.

Aye and Dave Felgate was man of the match .

Watford at Wembley, 1999. Think my first away league game was 0-0 at Blackburn in 2003.

This is a painful thread for me . My first match I cant remember . I was 6-7 so it was 1979 or 1980 . I had a cousin who was a Burnley fan and an uncle who was a Blackburn fan , we all used to go together if Bolton played any of those teams.  I remember Jim McDonagh scoring , I remember a 0-0 against Burnley where Billy Hamilton missed an open goal with a fresh air shot , and he lived in our village. The Village school made a big thing about sending him off to the World Cup.

My kids never lived with me and they blame me for leaving after their mum cheated on me for the 3rd time.

The Older girl used to play primary school football at 8 years old so I bought her a Bolton Kit to train in . I had one at primary school in Burnley at got teased about it so I should have learned. .  In her second week of training two adults in Preston spent 60 minutes abusing her . She was so upset and scared that she never went back and lost all interest . I said I would go with her to every match and training session and that I promised it would never happen again but the damage was done to an 8 yr old girl .

In the mean time the little lad had his name changed so his surname wasnt mine . by this time their mum from Preston had remarried a blackburn fan , who didnt give a shit about football but encouraged the boy to play and go to games.  However alcoholic unfaithful mum has spent the last 13 years trying to raise him as a man united fan just to hurt me .

The daughter has been to 2 games with me and the son 1  and each time I had to lie to get to take them to the football  at Wanderers.

Totally failed as a dad and it haunts me .
