Barnsley (A)

Another away game, another on sale day.  Tomorrow at 10am, 3200 initial allocation. Depending on the next couple of weeks this could be a huge game.

Barnsley away definately not a Williams game. It's an Iredale game.

  • 😂😂😂 I’ll join you now. I’m a rationale person, honestly, but I’ve just gone through the most extreme range of emotions in the space of 2 hours sat on my fucking couch with nobody listening to me.

  • A 2nd half display that can turn seasons. Drive, effort, tempo, intent and loads of fucking battle and belief. Welcome back Bolton 💪💪💪

What did you think of his cameo Tuesday?

Best I’ve seen him, if I’m being honest. About time though. But if he comes to the party for these last ten then he can go as a tomski favourite. I really liked Wilbraham ask it’s not a case of this type of player. Just him ha.

Massive gamble from Evatt making that sun and it paid off. Onto Exeter.

Wilbraham was quite rubbish during his time with us ... however, most of us won't remember the rubbish times.  I only remember him for his header at Sheff Weds and of course one of the greatest moments in my time as a Bolton fan, the diving header against Forest.

It'd be great for Jerome, and us, if he could sign off with his very own Wilbraham moment.

We'll just need to think of a song for him that we can sing for hours and hours in a nightclub.

Ha ha 🤣. 2 good responses. 👏.

Don’t think anyone else wins that penalty like he does, so thank fuck he was on the pitch

Season is a ten game play off now. He 36 are almost irrelevant. Everyone has a clean slate and we crack on.

He and Bod came on to protect a lead fairly recently and they both did the job very well

I can't remember who it was against, though

Yeh, like you can’t remember which game, or I’ll say games, as I’m sure it’s plural! He was the one who won that penalty at Wycombe as well wasn’t he?

Cheltenham, Carlisle and Cambridge they both came on when we were already leading, Jerome hasn't come on for any others recently (when leading).

Not saying he's played well every time he's appeared - which striker has? - but I've never come away from a game thinking "Jerome's not upto it".  He brings something to the table some of the others don't - strength, nous, ability to control a ball and not cough up possession easily.  I've never understood the anti-Jerome comments, he doesn't come on to replace Anelka or Haaland (I get the criticism for taking off Sheehan at Wigan but that's no reflection on the replacement).

Good spot.  He's won 2 of our 5 pens this season and he hardly ever plays!

On another note, my brother & nephew who live in Lincoln, have made it to 3 aways this season and in all 3 we've scored a massive goal around the 90th minute or more - Wycombe, Lincoln and Barnsley.  I haven't witnessed a late goal at all this season and I've been to about 20 more games than them.

Same as at Barnsley, Jerome used his experience to get the penalty at Wycombe, that time by getting ahead of the defender & then slowing down enough to get his heel clipped. They were both penalties but he made sure the referees saw them !!

As a late replacement player, he's nearly always done a good job for us.

The full article is an interesting read

Great reading, that piece.

Pretty good summary of the present situation.

Very thoughtful piece.

Possibly a touch dramatic- I don't think he was on thin ice for example, but nonetheless interesting.

Great piece.

Very true.

Sheehan looked like he was slipping as he kicked it.

FWIW, my guess about the penalty pecking order would be Charles, Morley, Dempsey, Collins before anyone else got a sniff. Those four weren't on the pitch, though.

Dempsey let 7 other players take one ahead of him at Blackpool in the BSM and Coleman was probably taking the 8th.

Can you stay away from now on and send your brother & nephew instead?

Hmmm, the atmosphere was certainly very moody for a while at Barnsley.

I understand that, but no way would Sharon et al have got rid.

Yep, at 2-0 there were folks kicking the seats, 'Fuck off Evatt', and some were already wanting to go home.

Of course, they were singing 'Super Ian Evatt' at the final whistle.

'Evatt Evatt sort it out'

Once the fans turn its game over.

He’s already had that sort of stuff to deal with and come through it. “Sideways and backwards, everywhere we go” at Hartlepool springs to mind.

Felt a bit different this time though. At 2-0 those knives were getting sharpened.

That half time team talk has probably turned our whole season.

It didn’t do much good in the first 2 minutes of the second half tbf 😂

I’ve said it before but it’s the first season he’s had in Management where he’s had genuine expectations (L2 was subdued by no fans in stadiums). The piece is spot on, not only have we as fans got these expectations, he’s only increased them.

That Barnsley goal is huge, it needs to be backed up with a win this weekend but the impact on the fans, and likely on the squad, is fucking massive. If that doesn’t go in then I genuinely think things would have turned. 3 big away games, 3 games with pressure on them, 3 losses - that would have been catastrophic, rightly or wrongly.

Thankfully it did go in and the mood is very very different than it could have been.
