The guy is more than good enough for a promotion winning League 1 team. When he defends, he’s one of the best in the league. Prone to an occasional mistake, but League 1 players are (otherwise they’d be in the Champ). He (we) need to get rid of this tactic of slowing down (stopping) at the back to invite the press. Let’s be honest - he MUST have been told to do that, Shirley? Quite correct, on his day there’s not many better at this level. I think he was playing with an injury towards the end of the season which obviously didn’t help. But to get rid of him now would be stupid Quote

The debt was going up rapidly and we were busy arguing about Owen Garvan. He's still worth arguing over 😃 One of the few seasons where we've had nothing to play for either way by the end of it, can only think of that Liverpool cup tie as any sort of highlight. Maybe people wearing Celtic hats at Lennons first game 🤢 I like to think of them mid 2010s doldrums seasons as "The Alcohol Years". Quote

I've spotted an offer to get Bein Sports for 2 months for 99 cents so I'm reserving any opinion until after I watch the Wrexham game. They're exactly the type of team we've struggled with so I think that game will tell us a lot about the chances for this season. Plus if we get turned over at least I've not had to pay full wack to see it. Quote
radcliffe white Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Don’t buy the Santos hype either and I’m guessing championship managers don’t as surely he would’ve gone by now His injury record is poor (correct me if I’m wrong but last 3 seasons he’s had spells out) he’s ok out muscling small attackers but when he gets challenged he becomes clumsy he would get eaten alive in the championship but for where we’re now it’s fine but I certainly wouldn’t build my defence around him or be opposed to him being dropped if not performing Quote

Good player on his day, shocking player when not, think the captaincy needs taking off, the club surely has to make at least one change from the end of last season, otherwise we truely have no plan B Quote

Instead I'm not looking forward to taking the kids to games this season when it starts getting toxic. They've only been going last 3 seasons and it's all been positive (till Wembley). I agree with that. Whether or not either of IE or Southgate deserved to go or had earned more time, their very presence is/was causing tensions among fans. So that the first time Stones or Santos put their foot on the ball and pass back to the keeper, the fans turn. The first time England/Bolton lose to one of those teams we always lose to, the fans turn. Sharon has chosen to go down the road of hoping it all turns out right in the end, and has turned down the opportunity to have a fresh wave of optimism and enthusiasm amongst the fanbase, whether or not that would have turned out to be backed up by an improvement. It feels like that moment has been delayed, the can has been kicked down the road, but I'd love to see the changes/improvement to happen under IE. Quote

Let’s be honest - he MUST have been told to do that, Shirley? I think we overrate Championship defenders, Santos could play at that level any day of the week, mistakes or not. John Stones, Harry Macguire, Van Dyche to name just 3 make plenty of errors and they are top international players. Same with keepers, they all seem to be judged on their qualities rather than their cock ups, which they all do, mainly because they are asked to play like Beckenbauer rather than sticking to defending. Both at fault individually, in that Santos was beaten to the challenge/failed to tackle, but the striker should then have had the keeper to beat, not an open goal on a plate! Its irrelevant, because Coleman won't make another start in the league, but his positioning is consistently poor. Quote

It could have been a training session and its still there to be commented on. I was mainly taking issue with Iles saying it was a mix up between the 2 when clearly it wasn't. If we'd lost 10-0 it would still be irrelevant, its a training session. Quote

Injuries are a concern and as to whether we are looking after our players. Our wing backs are often injured, they are asked to work very hard. Even Bradley went back to Liverpool with an injury. Charles’ knee breakdown is another example. Was he brought back to soon. Santos has been carrying an injury since last Christmas, after coming out of hospital with I think pneumonia. Hopefully he is better now. As for the second part I have no idea, but the defeat at Wembley and the silence did not stack up right. i am very hopeful for the new season and I think there looks to be some exciting signings on the way. Although, I feel it is reasonable to raise these concerns as they stand at the moment. I am not in meltdown!!! Fair enough. The injuries aren’t ideal but I guess I was responding more to the suggestion that there wasn’t a plan / monitoring and that the club was shut. Regardless of fans opinions, you’ll do well to find a League One club that’s as organised (on the football side) as we are. Things were happening in the background but the club (in my opinion) were right to stay silent whilst things settled. Most of the injuries are minor at this stage (some were of course known at the end of last season). And players are being protected rather this risked. Anyway, like you I’m optimistic. I expect us to be top 2 or 3. And I really don’t think Birmingham will win it like most do. Time will tell on that one. Quote

Johnnyrotten Posted July 23 Posted July 23 It just shows how folk get worked up about friendlies, whoever they support. I'm sat in the office next to a PNE fan and they've just gone 2 down v Tranmere at Euxton. Ryan Lowe's days numbered already according to him 😃 Quote
