I always felt an affinity with Wrexham back in the day because they had a similar trajectory to us in the late 70s. Just missed out on promotion 2 years running, they lost at home to champions Mansfield on the same day we lost at home to Wolves, then were promoted as champions in 1978.

Famously(ish), we stopped up in division 2 the first year they brought in 3 points for a win. If it had still been 2 points, we'd have gone down and Wrexham would have stayed up.

A couple of our fans are born and bred Colwyn Bay, 100% Welsh, absolute salt of the earth blokes, S/T holders and regulars at aways since the 80s, still travel over every home game (one of them was at Orient).

Whilst it's not a "money worry", still having to fit within the ffp stuff will restrict spending. Same with any club.

Part of the reason for expanding the stadium. 

Not sure how exactly the rules apply in the lower leagues, but if it is over the three year period, and the owners have been chucking a lot into the club in recent times, then there may be a requirement to slow things down or risk points deductions etc.

Guess we'll see in time.

Interesting thread regarding some of your experiences in Wales and Welsh speakers.

I don't speak Welsh myself despite having lived in Wrexham all my life (awaits pelters for this 😀), but I can say I haven't experienced much if any of what some of you have. Lived in Wrexham for over 40 years. Spent years out in pubs in my younger days. Not denying it didn't happen to some of course as I have witnessed this in Caernarfon however there was absolutely zero malice meant, they were literally just talking to each other and were welcoming and happy to speak with us.

There are hardly any Welsh speakers in Wrexham. I'd challenge anyone to find people speaking in Welsh anywhere in Wrexham, pubs, shops on the street etc etc. The only local place to Wrexham that still has Welsh speakers in any real numbers is Rhos and even there its the older generation mainly. Rhos though is the next village to Johnstown. It is possible that what's been discussed happened in a Johnstown pub - curiosity wise, which pub was it and what year was it? Johnstown used to be a rum old place with many many characters but the vast majority were good folk. 

However again, welsh speakers in this area are in very very small pockets. It would've been a piss take without doubt and there would be absolutely no reason to try and offend anyone with it. But to suggest that the majority locals in Wrexham would suddenly switch to Welsh if their English detectors go off simply isn't possible because hardly anyone could even if they wanted to.

Anyway - the game on Sunday. First of all I don't expect us to get anything from the game. Despite getting promoted last season our away performances last season weren't great and we often made very hard work of it. Our home form was different gravy mind. 

Wish Mullin was fit and could play, and that's one of the reasons I think we'll lose. Just think you'll be too strong and like others have said there's a high possibility of us conceding a few goals. 

Never been to Bolton for football or otherwise so really looking forward to this one. Its hard for me to believe that a few years ago we were going to hell holes like Boreham Wood and Solihull.

I get the Disney/Ryan and Rob hate too. Because you haven't experienced it so the lack of understanding is understandable. 

I can only speak of what I know and the promises they've made; and they have delivered on them all (stadium redevelopment is in the works) and a whole lot more. If you surveyed every fan in the country of what they would want from the owners of their club these two would almost certainly be at the top of or very close to the top of meeting all of that criteria.

Just delighted to be back amongst some really big clubs in a properly competitive league. 15 years in Non League wasn't fun.

Two of my stand out memories are at the Racecourse.  The promotion in 1987 is up there with any highlight of the last 40 years, "Wrexham" doesn't need any more explanation for fans of that era.  The lowlight was going there around 1985, FA Cup 1st round, we were Div 3 you were struggling in Div 4, crowd under 3k even though we brought 1k.  You beat us (2-1?) and it felt like we'd hit rock bottom because the cup mattered in those days and I'd never seen us fail to get to the 3rd round in my life before then, so to lose to a Div 4 team was humiliating.

That was a ridiculous end to the season, 81-82.  We'd played our last game and Cardiff had 2 games still to play IIRC.  They won one then had to beat Luton to send us down, who had already been promoted so didn't need points.  Thankfully Luton did us a massive favour to keep us up, but following the game was virtually impossible, I remember getting HOURLY updates on Radio 2 or something.

d) they go out of business and start again as Wrehxam Athletic in divsion 14

e) they cease to exist

basically the same that happens to all clubs on way or another

Add 'Dim Ysmygu' (No smoking ... pronounced Dim Iss-Mi-Gi) and 'ARAF' (p. Arav) on the road surface at junctions, it means STOP.

You'll have about as much Welsh as most in Wrexham.

Add 'Chwarae teg' (pron. Ch-waah-reh tayg) meaning 'fair play', in a general more than a sporting sense, & you're almost GCSE  standard.
