Add 'Dim Ysmygu' (No smoking ... pronounced Dim Iss-Mi-Gi) and 'ARAF' (p. Arav) on the road surface at junctions, it means STOP.

You'll have about as much Welsh as most in Wrexham.

Add 'Chwarae teg' (pron. Ch-waah-reh tayg) meaning 'fair play', in a general more than a sporting sense, & you're almost GCSE  standard.

I'm getting the feeling that the suffix 'io' means ....ing.

I feel like a 'Son of Glandwr' now.

Two of my stand out memories are at the Racecourse.  The promotion in 1987 is up there with any highlight of the last 40 years, "Wrexham" doesn't need any more explanation for fans of that era.  The lowlight was going there around 1985, FA Cup 1st round, we were Div 3 you were struggling in Div 4, crowd under 3k even though we brought 1k.  You beat us (2-1?) and it felt like we'd hit rock bottom because the cup mattered in those days and I'd never seen us fail to get to the 3rd round in my life before then, so to lose to a Div 4 team was humiliating.

Was the FAC game not the same season as promotion??

A couple of our fans are born and bred Colwyn Bay, 100% Welsh, absolute salt of the earth blokes, S/T holders and regulars at aways since the 80s, still travel over every home game (one of them was at Orient).

You're right. Proving I'm not Welsh 🫣. It's an instruction though, at road junctions. So is used as an order to stop ... presumably 'if necessary'.

Welsh for stop is, sadly, 'Stopio' 🙄. I don't recall ever seeing that as a road instruction.

I like that the cafe further up Carousal regularly has the 'C' knocked off making it cafe arousal.

Can't confirm that they are speakio English then swap to Welsh when we go in though.

No, cup defeat was November 85. Relegated to Div 4 86/87, promoted a year later.  God that was a grim decade results wise (Savage goal aside).

I was mistaken earlier saying it was first time I'd seen us fail to get to Cup R3, we lost in 1st round the year before too, at Hull (at least they had a decent side, unlike Wrexham).

Yes, that was the link with BWFC.  Their Dad was secretary/director at Colwyn Bay FC for decades, I always heard "Up The Bay" in pubs at various away trips (you couldn't not hear 'em if they were in same pub).  Great genuine lads.

Aye. Cup defeat there in 85 but as I think @bwfc2003was alluding to, we played there in the promotion year too. 1st round. Won 2-1. Some kindly soul put the goals on here a while back.

Wonder if they've switched to specialising in a different brand now that Land Rover have fully committed to being yuppy wagons and farmers aren't buying them anymore

You were roughly speaking, directly above me then.

It will never be beaten.

So we did.  That game has been erased from my memory for some reason.  I went to the 1st and 3rd rounds at Burnley (pitch invasion) and Barnsley (huge away following) but forgot all about winning at Wrexham.

Mentioned earlier in the thread I believe:
