Wanderlust Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Scrappy winner against a poor team in the end. Lots of comments about the midfield but the reality is we created enough quality chances to score 4 or 5 goals and couldn’t take them and we conceded because of defensive sloppiness pure and simple so if anything the room for improvement is at the front and the back rather than the middle. A few scenarios yesterday where they seem lost to each other. Quote

Not in the debate of whether they are sad or not but I’ve always believed the best insult is no insult with ex players. Not worth a boo etc. He loved every minute of it when he came off at the home game this season. Quote
Popular Post marple whites Posted January 5, 2025 Popular Post Posted January 5, 2025 (edited) Bloody long day but eventually worth it. first half again played reasonably well, just cant take our chances. miss a sitter second half, then gift them a goal with a bow on it. period of scrappy play and Charles for me then changes the game with his closing down and non stop running. appeared a decent finish from Collins. then everyone listening to the tannoy saying the game might be stopped and we score - then bedlum not felt like that or celebrated like that for ages. certainly made for a happy trip home. next stop Rotherham - we never win there………. And like I keep saying he’s getting lots wrong and, rightly, has very few, if any advocates at the moment. But I’m still not dismissing everything he does, or says, as I think it’s easy to assume everything as being wrong. I like to be a bit more considered and balanced. I maintain picking Morley was brave and correct. And another point I made yesterday, which I’ll reiterate, those players showed character, togetherness and resilience to comeback and win, unusual traits if they have downed tools and aren’t playing for the manager/the badge. I agree. There’s a few partnerships/player connections that are concerning. That’s one of them. The other for me is Santos and Johnston. I’m beginning to think Southwood edges Baxter at the moment. And I’d much prefer to see a back 3 of Toal, Santos and Forrester Quote

Marrrrvellous Surely you're capable of some more critical thinking than this? Some wins are because the tactical system worked, although they're becoming more infrequent. This win though had little to do with the management, tactically again we weren't set up well/correctly and it took Exeter collapsing and gifting us two goals. Quote

And credit where credit is due to Evatt. I didn’t think Evatt was going to pick him today. I fully expected him to be on the bench and hear stuff about he’s had a busy week, no time on the grass, not up to speed yet with how we are playing blah blah. Hopefully he’s alongside two other midfielders next week When I wrote it I was hoping I was tempting fate 😀 Very similar to the goal at Cheltenham, same cross from same area, Charles got a touch for that one. Yes credit to IE for picking Morley, I'd be lieing if I said I thought this is what we've been missing, until the goal obviously. Seemed to be playing within himself, energy seemed lacking, played the easy option 90% of the time. But I think he'll improve in less scrappy games. This season and last, Morley has scored 4 league goals away from home for us (Wycombe, Shrewsbury, Bristol the others). Maghoma the other midfielder with 4, Dempsey and Tomo 3 each. None from Sheehan. Quote

Are we doing as well as we are in spite of poor management? Quote

For the most part it seems we didn't play well, but still had chances to win more comfortably. Still don't understand the selections and style. We have showed in snippets what we can do, but it is far too infrequent. It's going to take far, far more than this win to convince anyone that he's going to succeed. Quote

How many times has it cost us ? I find it strange decision but over his time as manager it has been a risk worth taking. I would have played Matete. Quote

I don't see how it's shown to be a risk worth taking. We can still have more outfield subs available than can be used. Of those, such is the formulaic nature of the swaps, that it makes it all the more of a headscratcher. Quote

If Gonzo's right about Morley being vocal and disgruntled pre the Wycombe loan and if reports of pro-Evatt and anti-Evatt cliques in the dressing room are accurate and if you wanted to, you could probably read something into their response to Morley scoring (and post match). If you wanted to 😁 Quote

In one off games he reverts to 2 keepers as the risk in his opinion is worth it. Quote
