The best interview from a manager ever, and probably the most un-manager like interview ever! Can see why he coaches the u18s, and is doing so well at it. Pure joy; back to the days of ding

  • Fucking brilliant! Plenty of shithousery, no fucking about at the back, defenders knocking Charles about like a ragdoll. Superb gritty team performance. Absolutely made up, especially for Julian Darby

  • Good man Julian Darby. Late on his career with us he had some rough times with the fans but even then he scored a couple of really crucial goals when Bruce got us promoted. This is a properly deserved

The Speed penalty 1-0 at Man City was a smash and grab.

Yesterday most certainly wasn't.

That goal against Southampton at the Dell in the cup 😉

Was living away so couldn’t get the local radio commentary. Remember ‘watching’ that game on teletext. Goal time was 90 min. Jumping  around the living room thinking job done . Then it changed to 89 and I was thinking what’s going on? Then it came up Horne 90. Balls

Not half

Remember the legends football phone in on Key103.

Some lass was on the day after crying about it, proper sobbing

And if that was now there's not a cat in hell's chance Barry Horne decides to shoot, his manager would have had him passing it simple and building up a patient attack, keeping shape and discipline.

Felgate got a lot of stick for not saving it, I thought it was a tough one, but he was very poor on the 1st by Shearer.  Our 2 goals were both things of beauty, very different, but they really were quality.

He should have stopped it really.

It did banana about, but I'm sure even now, he will reckon he should have done better.

On the flip side, remember Burnley in the cup.

Remarkable.

Felgate was playing on virtually one leg got injured from memory when they scored their first goal.

Barry Horne taught my lads Chemistry at King's School in Chester & ran the, really very good, Football teams.

He was never hesitant to tell you about this goal & match.

I've seen a few smash and grab wins, for and against us (Exeter maybe), and that was nowhere near one.  We were comfortable and I'm not saying we deserved to win by more than one but a 2nd goal was more likely for us than an equaliser was for them.  I can't remember the last time we were the better team in both halves away from home against anyone of any note.

I caught up with him when his lad was doing a keeper course

He was injured going in and shearer kicked/stamped on him first chance he got

Seemed to play a lot of big games one legged. Aldershot play off?

Gassed on the way down by the Zulus and a very long train journey home. The things you do.

That Southamton match.

I arranged a meeting in Basingstoke. It lasted 30 minutes. 5 of us went. Two Nolton, I Sunderland, one Barnsley plus a Southampton lad who had his own ticket.

Nice beers beforehand then that match.

I drove down & got a call from the wife while I was near Shrewsbury. My 4 tickets were still on the mantelpiece !!!

I was thinking I'd have to return but she'd rung the club & they said some non-olaying squad were travelling down & would pick them up from her at noon, at Lymm services.

They did too.

Yeah remember he had to throw the ball when restarting play.

Back to Hudders did anyone notice that for corners against we always had a man in the semi circle blocking off shots . Mainly Morley.

Was in work early and had to get a taxi  from moor lane the morning after, remember the gassing it caused a bit of a stir.

He didnt do a very good job then

I thought in general our blocking of shots was excellent. Our lads were throwing their bodies all over to stop Hudds getting a shot away.

We defended well & it was nice to see after our recent shitshows

There was a stat I saw after the match and it was something like

Attempted crosses: 33

Successful crosses: 5

Michael Duff interview , He says smash & grab at least 3 times...

Huddersfield seem to be trying to convince themselves that our performance and reaction was all about them being a big club. Saturday was all about Bolton Wanderers

That tickled me. It will be a cold day in hell when I look at us beating Huddersfield as the kind of scalp the interviewer alludes to!
