I remember being at Wembley, would be either League Cup or Play Offs under Rioch, and Darby was under the stands with the rest of the fans. Some prick was giving him dogs abuse and got shouted down by some other fans "leave the lad alone, he's a wanderer". One of the reasons I'm so happy he got to manage the side to a win, he always gave his all and it's great to see him acclaimed in this way now, he's one of our own.

Probably important to put the current adulation into context too.

I did smile in his interview on Thursday when he praised the fan base, thinking they haven't always been on your side! Just comes across as a really nice fella.

It’s up there pal. It was unbelievable. That intake of breath, almost silence, as Collins took it round the keeper to the absolute outpour of emotion and wildness when the ball hit the back of the net was something very special.
