Fair points.

Desperado above put out his midfield suggestion and it shit me up.

I reckon SS may get a bit more physically out of some of them, just because of the way he wants us to play, but Morley, Sheehan and Randall in there; well...

Fingers crossed, he's got them working on something.

Oh and please please put our smallest midget on the edge of our penalty box to prevent the Shrewsbury set play that has stung us twice before.

Shipley was only sub for their last league game - I bet he's first name on teamsheet on Saturday!

I don’t necessarily feel the experimenting is a restrictive, inhibitive, or negative influence on our play-off chances.

On the contrary.

The experimentation in parts has been productive. has shown potential or at the very least has been refreshing, adaptable and a breath of fresh air instilling some excitement across the fan base.

Even the aspects that are questionable are providing a quick learning curve for SS.

Totally agree - I didn't say it was a bad thing - in fact I'd expect any new manager to take the time to have a good look at the squad and system options. My point was that whilst it will obviously benefit us in the long term, it would be a fair bit of luck to discover our best option(s) immediately and until then we are unlikely to be the best we can be, whatever that is.

Which is why I'm not thinking about the playoffs FOR NOW...

Contrary to the propaganda :)  I haven't "given up" on the playoffs - I'm just not framing every game as a "must win if we are to keep our playoff hopes alive" thing. I'm trying to stick with "let's see what Shumacher does during the current process" and hope it's enough. If we're there or thereabouts towards the end of the season I have no doubt the playoff thing will be back in my thinking but I don't see the point of worrying about it whilst Schumacher is getting his head round what we have and how to use it.

Until then I'll be in the "one game at a time" camp.

noticed vs Crawley we had a man on the edge of the box whilst defending corners

                      Southwood

Cogley.      Toal.   Johnston.    Murphy

                Sheehan.  Morley

 Schon.            Randall.            Tutu

                         Collins

If SS reverts back to 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1) then we’ll probably see something like this.

3 CBs with Forrester and an extra Attacker (Vic) and /or Midfielder (Matete) if we go 5-3-2.

Personally I’d like to see the 4-5-1 go again and would rather Schon and Tutu swap sides, but listening to SS it sounds as though the inverted wide men is something he likes.

Decent line up there. Only suggested changes would be Tomo for Randall and it becomes more of a 433, and then someone for Schon (maybe Lolos despite how bad he was on Tuesday) as he looked ineffective out wide right but Tutu has that position for me. Forrester unlucky but him and Johnston are similar standard.

Tommo is still serving a ban, isn't he?

Good point well made.

Hmmmmm in that case Matete for Randall. I'm not overly sold on either but would rather 3 proper midfielders

I personally wouldn’t drop Forrester who’s been far and away our best central defender in recent games. I wouldn’t leave Johnston out either as he’s also come back into form for the last couple  it’s tough but I’d either keep the 3 at the back or drop Toal. If only we had such good options up top and in midfield?

Toal needs to play for the same reason posted the other day

Without him and Newcastle, we have no height

Forrester wins more headers than anybody so height isn’t a determinant. Personally for a game like Shrewsbury I’d keep 3 at the back anyway because we know there’s going to be a lot of crosses from Salop.

We can't be playing Lolos as a winger

Toal and Forrester aren’t without faults, but you won’t improve the defence by changing it every week. Decide on your preferred formation (looks like it’s 4 at the back), decide on your preferred centre back partnership and stick with it for 5 games.

For me, it’s Toal and Forrester and they’ll improve game on game. At very least, those mistakes due to mix up in communication / leaving it for one another should be massively reduced.

Same back 4 for me, and would be for the foreseeable.

Simply not confident about this.

Still working on things obviously, but we simply have to find a way against the big/physical teams.

In recent times, these have found a way to stop us, so it's time to turn that back around.

And we will.Under SS I think we look more robust

I know what you mean, but that went out of the window last week!

Darby had us tighter, perhaps at the expense of possession etc, but SS now has the difficulty of being a front foot, aggressive attacking team, whilst having too many pussy footing types.

Feed them raw meat.

I believe that's where he played for Crawley in the main last season. Not saying it's ideal but who else is there?

I'd probably stick with Schon and aim to have Cogley providing width as an overlapping full-back

I’d lose Randall, go with Vic up top with Collins roaming in behind him. I want to give the lad a chance buts it’s about picking up as many points as possible and as much as it pains me to say it vics the only option we have challenging for a header with those long balls and clearances. We’ve just got to get up the pitch in and around him to pickup the second balls. Besides, Randall has only shown remote flashes with pulling out of challenges and half hearted pressing in his time. It surprises me how much he gives the ball away too so far. He needs time to bed in but so far the jury is very much out for me and I think he looks like another mcatee.

Collins is class and can make something from nothing but isn’t going to win anything in the air so I hope he’s not up there on his own.

Interesting one.

Has Vic ever one a header the whole time he's been here?

I'd expect an Ainsworth team to be direct, physical & cynical so pick a team to stand up to that......3 centre backs to face a bombardment, best 2 defensive wing backs, the most physical midfielder , Matete  & 2 upfront since we've nobody capable of playing 1 upfront, so...

      Southwold

Cogley...Toal...Forrester...Johnston...Murphy

Sheehan...Matete...Morley or Randall or Lolos

    Vic        Collins

bring Tutu & Schon on later to have a run at them.
