Needs to learn how to head a ball downwards and beat the goalie, to date I've only seen him do clearances Quote

Rival Son Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 To be honest, we need to be playing the likes of Barnsley, Wycombe and Lincoln, to open or close gaps. As many six pointers as possible, please. Quote

Schon gets behind the defence and pulls the ball across to Santos, who’s free on the penalty spot. Santos puts his foot on the ball, has a look round, and a defender nips in and clears the danger! Almost right. He would pass it back to the keeper then move to the edge of box to receive the ball back Quote

Johnnyrotten Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Tough game this, Shrewsbury in good form. 3 defeats in 10 and they were all away, all 1-0, at Stockport, Charlton and Orient. Start of a very difficult run of 10 fixtures upto the Wigan game, SS is definitely going to learn a lot from the different challenges and hopefully Shrews won't be taken lightly, they aren't playing like relegation fodder. We're in a good place There’s loads of analysis on this and, in fact, if you want to go up in the play offs, you’re better off finishing 3rd. We tend to remember those teams like Oxford that come from nowhere, but in reality, the team that finishes highest wins the most. If we get into the play offs I’ll dig it out. I bore myself sometimes. Quote
desperado Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Southwood Cogley. Toal. Johnston. Murphy Sheehan. Morley Schon. Randall. Tutu Collins If SS reverts back to 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1) then we’ll probably see something like this. 3 CBs with Forrester and an extra Attacker (Vic) and /or Midfielder (Matete) if we go 5-3-2. Personally I’d like to see the 4-5-1 go again and would rather Schon and Tutu swap sides, but listening to SS it sounds as though the inverted wide men is something he likes. Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 He might be right-footed but I like Tutu on the left I just think he finds it easier to beat his man on that side Quote

Tough one for SS because both of those statements are true. On Tuesday, watching live, it was noticeable how high Gethin was told to play on the right in his RWB position. Makes me wonder whether we might see him playing. I’d love Schon to come good there. Despite his poor (or should I say less effective) performance last week, he’s had a great season. One of the plus points, in a so far frustrating season. Didn’t deserve some of the more fatalistic assessments, as if he’s not able and will never again be able play anywhere other than LWB. Quote
L/H White Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 2-1 Shrewsbury I think we'll find scoring difficult Quote
Wanderlust Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Hard to say how this will go. Shrews have been good recently and Shumacher is still finding his feet. I've given up thinking about the playoffs for now as I get the feeling we're still experimenting with what we've got. Difficult to be patient though when we're still in the picture. Quote

I don’t necessarily feel the experimenting is a restrictive, inhibitive, or negative influence on our play-off chances. On the contrary. The experimentation in parts has been productive. has shown potential or at the very least has been refreshing, adaptable and a breath of fresh air instilling some excitement across the fan base. Even the aspects that are questionable are providing a quick learning curve for SS. Quote
Popular Post Eddie Posted February 13, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2025 Anyone that’s given up on the play offs when we’re 3 points away and are chasing the likes of Charlton and Stockport with 16 games to go are mad. I know we’ve got tough games which historically we’ve been shit in (but so will they) and I know we’ve got an imbalanced squad - but they aren’t exactly Real Madrid. It’s all to play for. Quote

Definitely all to play, but I have sympathy for the cards SS has been left by IE - squad and fixtures. We've averaged 1.7 points in home games to date and 1.4 away. 7 homes and 9 aways left. SS will do well to maintain those averages with the tougher fixtures and I wouldn't say he's failed if it dips a bit; IE definitely wouldn't have kept up his "win %" based on his track record in the type of fixtures remaining. If we maintain the average we'll get another 25 points from 16 games, finishing on 72. That would be an achievement for me, there's nothing we can do about how many points the others get except when we play them (still can't believe we gave Charlton an extra 3 pts). And I agree with anyone saying we can win any of the last 16 games, no game is impossible in L1 (and Brum away is out of the way), absolutely we can win individual games, just being realistic about the task with the tools available. Don’t disagree with any of it mate, and I wouldn’t hold it against SS if we do miss out (high expectations on him for next season though). I’m as stats based as anyone, and the “big games” stat was the one that I held most against our chances with Evatt at the helm. His record was too damning over too long a period to give us a chance. However, optimism does funny things - I’m now scrapping those same stats and registering them as null and void under new stewardship 😂. We’ve already got one data point (Hudds away) that proves we can win those games that we need to, so I’m now firmly in the camp of it’s a straight shoot out over 16 games and I believe we’ll finish above either Charlton or Stockport and possibly both. Krimzon Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Not arsed about the result as far as the play offs go . I wrote the season off a few months back . I did want us to get to the final of the Sherpa Van tho. Now I just want to be entertained. New Management new vision etc . Played Reading , battered them , Crawley What a game , Rectum much the better team . I wanna watch proper football having a real go , result is second. And my goodness I never thought Id type that , younger me would have twatted me , when winning was all . Quote

Well it’s happened twice on the spin (away) mainly because of our lack of cutting edge & physicality. One thing Schumacher can’t do is wave a magic wand . Watched Shrewsbury beat Wrexham the other week & they bullied them off the park although hanging on a bit at the end. We need a midfield three for sure & Sheehan will need his best shinpads. Oh and please please put our smallest midget on the edge of our penalty box to prevent the Shrewsbury set play that has stung us twice before. Quote
