Root and branch 🤣

All three of the number 10s haven't shown enough to warrant being here nevermind long term deals.

I'd keep Southwood and let Baxter go and free up some wages.

Defence keep Forino, Johnston, Forrester and Toal. JDC needs competition and a proper left back.

Midfield keep Tomo and Morley schon and Tutu for the wings. The rest can go

Forwards only Collins should have a career here next season but we know that won't be the case.

It's going to be real difficult for SS to decide this, as changing even a few of the players might have a dramatic impact on the likes of Thomason, Johnston and others, maybe all they need is a reliable CDM with some physicality and positioning. Maybe the players people rate now are just the ones that are best at hiding. Who knows.

Of the get rid, I'd probably keep Sheehan and Tommo.

Other than that 🤷‍♂️.

Be tempted to let Baxter walk after that nonsense yesterday

I'd not offer anyone of the 1st team a new deal tbh.

No new contracts for any player til after January when we can see if they're up to snuff under Schumacher.

We’re clearly not going to be able to get rid of all the ones we want to but I think it’s been shown with out of contract players and loans you end up with about 8/9 going.

If you add to that 1 or 2 that clubs would genuinely want to take off our hands, and 1 or 2 that would go out on loan if we’re clear with them that they’re not in SS’s plans then I think you could probably easily get to 10-12 spaces in the squad.

The important bit from there is that those coming in are improving the starting 11. JDC might not be going anywhere but we bring in a first choice RB that JDC plays second fiddle too (and is a perfectly competent back up for injuries / lack of form etc.).

Same with Sheehan, GT and Dempsey. They’re all good options to have in a squad, but they’re relegated from being your first choice to being your back up options.

We’ve absolutely 100% got to use the places we’ll be freeing up to improve the 1st 11. I suppose the real challenge will be where you’re already over indexed in a position from contracted players (ie the 3x no.10s which he highlights) - if you really don’t like any of them then you’re in trouble.

Think SS might have let Baxter go anyways just to help make room in the squad. Do feel sorry for him a bit becuase i dont think he's really done much wrong.

Iirc keepers don't count towards the squad limit, but whilst he's not done much wrong I'd not be spending 2 lots of 1st team keepers wages on him and Southwood.

Yep it's gonna be a tricky summer but that's whay ss is getting paid decent wages for plus the new guy coming in from Belgium must be down to play a big part in the summer movements/recruitment .

You're correct about goalkeepers not counting

I should have been clearer i know they dont count towards the squad limit, i was more talking about the budget he'll have for wages.

It does seem like he'll be moving on

He was quoted in the BN a few weeks ago as saying he was keen to sign a new contract but that there hadn't been any contact from the club at all

Or in this case catching

I find the clamour for Southwood over Baxter a bit Joe Riley.

I think with a reset Baxter can be a real asset in this division.

New keeper coach in and some confidence built.

A couple new defenders to grow with. I’d 100% sign him up. As cheese said Keepers are not our issue. We won’t be able to find a keeper as good as Baxter season 1, surely working on him is our best option?

I take it you didnt see the must win game yesterday when he put in a match winning performance for Lincoln

I’d disagree on that being must win yesterday. That ship had sailed probably Wycombe but if we are being honest I’d say Jan window.

I think he was being a little monkey there. He wants to play in the Championship (fair enough) and he was always clear with the club about that, so they didn't rush to sort it (they sorted Sheehan / JDC as both wanted to stay - not a coincidence that Baxter, Jones and Santos haven't been sorted)

The cynic in me says he hasn't had that many offers and used that interview to let the club know he 'might' be interested in staying. Stupidly, in the same interview, he admitted he'd put weight on earlier in the season (incredibly unprofessional).

He's an intelligent guy so this surprised me.

Gut feeling is he'll either have to accept being a bench warmer in the Championship or swallow his pride and fight for number one here on the same or less pay

When can we starting talking to any possible new signings?

SS basically said last week he was already speaking to targets depending which level we are playing at. I guess we can approach clubs at any point where fees are involved, and PL clubs will be sounded out regarding young loanees. Out of contract players i guess would be July 1st

BUT, the unofficial chats will have begun already.

Bit off for me.

Baxter seems to be on his way- no contract news whatsoever.

Plus he seems to be way off form.

You've got Dempsey- he may still need surgery, isn't getting any younger and maybe a risk beyond his contract. Depends upon fitness assessment over the summer.

Tutu- injuries will also be a concern.

Not sure Schon is favoured by the manager, nor Randall, nor Lolos.

As SS says, getting rid could be difficult too.

Tomo stays- physicality alongside him will help his game.

Sheehan may be one to go to make room, as he has less contract time left, but I'd prefer to keep him over Randall from their relative contributions.

The latter may come good, but does the manager see him as a fit, given his no 10 comments?
