The difference between really top wide men, and those at a lower level.

Brighton lad may go on to bigger things, but any team with two wide lads with skill and pace need them to create goals.

I'm confident they will, but some teams will double up/find a way to nullify some of that pace, meaning they will need an extra string to the bow.

Plymouth had 3 men on acd at times and still couldn’t stop him

Expecting Sheehan to step up to the plate after all these years of never ever stepping up to anything is quite the show of faith/drunkenness

Will you never learn

He was well up for it today.

Maybe he can do more than take the ball of Santos and get clattered after all.

Will avoid the analysis for now. After a long winless run at the end of 24/5 and last weekend it feels brilliant to get a good solid home win on the board. Really important also in the context of being dealt what looked like a tough first three games of the season.

Enjoy the evening everyone. A long season ahead ... but a different era now and prospects ahead.

Aye. No point overanalysing. 2-0 is a good win. We move on

Enjoyable is my word for the day

Was today a particularly memorable performance? Not sure

I'd say it was tbf. Proved he was more than just some schmuck sitting in front of the back 3 accepting suicide balls.

Miles better than Morley.

Good performance against a very Evatt like team.. did they ever test Teddy?

Relieved those days are over for us. 😮‍💨

we’re more organised and balanced, don’t mind not having the ball but want to win it back quickly after losing it. Finally playing with proper wingers who can change/win games. No longer a soft underbelly. Simons cool, no nonsense type we’ve been lacking and Erhahon will be a beast when match fit.

Early days yet , but we didn’t deserve to lose last week and definitely deserved a win today. This team has potential and we might yet have a squad and manager that is built in the Bolton way. 🤞

Fortunately, I dont think hes anywhere near prem level, not least cos hes small

Which is great for us

Not yet, and maybe he won't get there.

Not arsed about skilful wingers being tall.

Pace, low centre of gravity, and a bit of strength.

Get the head up and add end product and they're on their way.

Top marks for Schumacher picking that starting eleven.
There were hints he might make a few changes, and those he made were brave and made a nonsense of some of the comments on here about individual players. Including me. By dropping JDC and replacing him with OT there was far more cover down the right flank and created a role for Sheehan to partner Simons in the middle so that either could use their distribution skills most effectively and opened the door for more direct football which proved effective today. I was mistaken - Sheehan does have a role where he doesn’t have to feel he has to take responsibility all the time or fact about with the ball and as long as he sticks to that he’ll be fine. It’s a good system for most opposition even though it puts a lot of demands on Toal and Johnston. But they are warriors.

When I saw the line up I thought it looked a bit lightweight, and Tutu at right back gave me the shivers, but I'd happily hold my hand up, it was the right pick for the day and the opposition. The Simons / Sheehan combo worked a treat.

I'm conviced the reason people think the defenders from last year are so bad is literally down to Evatt's inability to understand tactics above an elementary level.

League 1 isn't hard... not really. Simple back 4, a hard bugger in the middle, a passer next to him, and 2 wingers and lump to aim at.

Under Ian Ego, we had a midfield with 3 passers (none of them bad players just not the right mix) that was never going to work. If we'd have had a Simons or Erhahon in 2023-24 we'd have been promoted.

Yes, I know.

To be a top winger though, crosses and assists have to be consistent.

He looks a diamond so far at this level- just hope he manages to keep it up, and even improve.

My Blackburn mate said he did well first half of season under Eustace though end product was hit and miss, less so under Ismael who didn't seem to fancy him. Like one or two of SS's signings, this level might be spot on for him

Others have said it, but worth a post of its own.

Max Conway!

Never seen anything of the lad before. Wouldn’t have known him if I was sat next to him. That’s a proper full back performance!

He does have an uncanny similarity to Alonso in his stature, the way he moves, shapes himself etc.. I don’t care how good Taylor is, he doesn’t come back in if Conway continues to play like that.

I said exactly the same today..

What I've liked about him last week and this is his anticipation, he sees things early and cuts balls out. That's a great attribute, aside from his height, running power and good left peg. Done his defending very well both games
