Plymouth Argyle (H)

Already a big game this.

Reckon on a bigger pitch with more space we will carve these open with our new found pace.

3-1

I want to see Randall do well because he's a talent but I did think some of the praise he got for yesterday was slightly exaggerated, a few of us commented at 0-0 that he just couldn't get a touch, and he's never going to get into the game by tackling, he couldn't get going.  He definitely improved but he can do more than that on the ball.  Sheehan the same, anonymous before that slide tackle then 3 great corners got him into the game and he played well despite his blatant foul for the booking.  But he definitely had games last season where he dictated more than yesterday.

On McAtee, it feels fashionable to knock him and ignore any good stuff he does (not having a dig at you Zico, I just mean generally).  We know he can't compete for headers, but aside from that I'm not sure how anyone could criticise his cameo, he got involved, showed great desire, played a great cross field ball and put in a decent cross after a good run.  I don't want him to be our 1st choice striker or No.10 any more than anyone else does, but I think the script is already written before he kicks a ball which is harsh.

Aye, wasn't seeing why Randall got plaudits yesterday, he was ok, but plenty of others stood out for me whilst he didn't

As for McAtee, I do think there's a player there, he did well last season when we were playing well under SS, so I'm not writing him off yet

People aren't objective when it comes to Mcatee. The clip of ACD's amazing skill and run shows Mcatee making the right run and ACD should of slipped him in but he chose to shoot. None of the subs had to do much yesterday when they came on. Close down, keep the shape see the game out.

Schuey made a lot of changes yesterday and it's clear they weren't all dropped. It's horses for courses. Mcatee and Randall will both get opportunities in that 10 role. Let's just see how it pans out until Christmas.

McAtee will get his 10 goals this year whilst continuing to be the most frustrating player in existence in the short-term...

Think he's just bereft of confidence right now. If he can get on the same wavelength as the wingers and #9 then he may well flourish

Pretty much,

was troubling to see how lost CW looked but that said, out of position in his first league match with 8 mins left on the clock doesn't leave much scope..

He's a youngster who was given minutes in pre-season because we were short of bodies

He needs to be given time to develop his game in the youth set-up or on loan in non-league

It'd be unfair on him to be thrust into the first team well before he's ready

Rooney was 16 when he was thrust in; not saying any of our B Team or under 18’d are ready but they do need a challenge. Start him against Wednesday and have Burstow on the bench

He might get an opportunity in the early rounds of the cup competitions but that should be it

Or a loan in non-league

He demonstrated in pre-season that he's not yet ready for third tier football

Just posted this on Facebook with people slating McAtee...

Feels very much like a cancel culture thing. He's passionate about the club, clearly has some skill but going through a rough patch. He'll come out the other side a better player. He's got previous for this (At Grimsby), gotta be pretty shit to be signed as a hot prospect for a Premier League club and within 2 years be struggling in League One. Genuinely reckon he's going to turn good for us.

I admire your optimism and hope you're right but I just don't see it. Don't think anyone has ever really been sure what his best position is and although 13 goals last season is definitely not to be sniffed at he doesn't really affect games that much and technically isn't the best. If he's limited to appearances off the bench for the majority of the season (saying that before we even bring another attacker in and Dalby gets fit) then it's going to be even harder for him. I'm not one of these waiting for him to give the ball away so I can throw my arms up and say I told you so but I simply don't rate him and there's nowt wrong with that.

I'm struggling to recognise the names and faces of most of our new signings, I'm not yet ready to get on board with all the initials too 😀

I was wondering why we cared that Caleb Watts wasn't having a great 2nd half.

I think there have been a few dismissive comments about Plymouth's performance that don't give us enough credit, but also downplay their threat.  They didn't threaten much but god that first half was competitive, every single ball from the 1st minute to the last had to be won and competed for. That doesn't happen against a bottom half side, for a spell they were right on it, and we scored against the run of play.  Not one of their players struggled in possession.  That winger (was it Mumba or Watts?) tore into us a few times, and our ex winger Amaechi beat us a few times and forced Sheehan into a first half booking.  They've been compared to an IE team but they were miles more fast and physical than that, they'll be winning games most weeks, we won't get such a tough 1st half against most teams in games when everyone agrees we played well.

In the 2nd half I was so impressed with how we took the game to them "despite" being 1 up then 2 up.  They looked beaten after our 2nd but we've had plenty games like that and know how it feels.  This was effectively one of those wins against a top 6 side that we couldn't get under IE, a great win rather than one against a poor side.

Agree about the first half being competitive, you could tell they had been in the championship last season. It was a bit like the brum/ipswich game the previous evening ( with out the quality perhaps), it was great that we matched them after the first 15 minutes and was probably just the type of game we needed.

On our changes yesterday just my take on them....Tutu 95% of us on here would have Cogley before TuTu but i think he was selected to do a man marking job on Mumba was their main outlet and i think Tutu did a great job.

Johnson was superb i did not think Plymouth offered anything up front Bim Pebble is a bit raw like and offered little

Sheehan did everything asked, neat and tidy as usual and won a few 50/50s a good game over all and yes i would have Erhahon and Morley before him in that position but another who played well. Gale did ok looked a yard off the pace but offered a outlet and width. Randall plays balls through others do not see, grafted and over all did ok....Would like to see Sheehan given a chance at 10.

Many options in every position.....This team is only going to get better

Schuey picking a side proactively based on the opposition as opposed to rinse and repeat? How refreshing.

We got Dubs to end of season?

Yeah. I doubt they'll recall him either.

Great result and performance yesterday. Credit to many of the players has already been given. But my biggest credit is to Schumacher, who shuffled the team perfectly.

I hoped for Johnston for Forino, Gale for CMG and Randall for McAtee. I’ve been waiting for Cogley to be replaced, but never thought Tutu was the (short-term?) answer. I was disappointed to see Morley dropped, but Sheehan was very good.

My only gripe is this perseverance with McAtee as the replacement for Burstow. While we’re actively looking for an alternative, I can’t see how Lawrence would be less effective as a short-term alternative, and he might just surprise us.

One final point, and I might be on my own here. I thought Plymouth were superior to Stockport. A combination of us improving, and not being subject to the bad fortune and referring we experienced at Stockport, made the difference in results. Plymouth will be up there, at the end of the season.

I think mcatee is not up to it but he is light years ahead of Lawrence.

Would have thought we have to play him in x number of games and he’s here for a full season

Has Mcatee had a social media flounce ?

So there'll be a fee payable following the duration of the loan. The more game time he has, the bigger discount we receive.

he grew up 2 mins from me Mcatee so I'd love him to be great here as much as anyone, but unfortunately he won't, simply not good enough in a crowded position

Yeah but McAtee does not have as much money as Zico

That is almost word for word my opinion after the game. Therefore either you is a genius or a mad head .

Randel is getting praise for yesterday as it was his best game in a Bolton shirt.

McAtee is being questioned as despite being an absolute pest playing against us he has hardly ruffled a feather since he got here.

Plymouth play Evatt ball, Stockport play Parky ball. There we only be one winner, its league 1.
