Sheffield Wednesday (H) - League Cup Round 1

tickets on sale for this, so will presume it's going ahead, will wait till day or day itself before till I get tickets though, just in case

but looking forward to it as we should be able to smash them

be interesting to see how many they bring, wouldn't surprise me if they filled the south stand given the chance, though they've initally been given 3,700 at £10/£5 a pop

I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought we had some decent attacking moments, I thought I'd dreamt it. Negativity on here is unbelievable, you'd think we were bottom of the league in November not

  • Pretty much my thoughts, decent night in all. Went on my tod, expected nothing, sat next to this sound woman from the States (small handful) who was over with her kid for some tournament. Enjoyed a pa

Most comments I heard coming away was that it was enjoyable, entertaining and a proper cup tie!  (and that the keeper was crap). £10 for that (and no queues getting away!) compared to about £30 v

Aye. Just seems very odd. "Sign this contract, even though we're not paying anyone at the moment and have no idea if we'll be able to pay you what it says"

I guess legally they can

Hull are under an embargo because they didn't pay a loan fee

They can still sign players on loan or free

Bit different but Bannan's agent would have been all over the legalities before signing it, especially if he had offers elsewhere

If things go tits up, he'll get his money. Might have to wait a bit but I'm sure he can wait

As I’ve read it, the players are being paid; albeit late. I’ve not seen anything that says someone is owed wages.

They are on the brink, but they haven’t yet tipped into the crisis situation we were in during 2019.

Aye going off what he said this morning it's the staff who haven't been paid.

They refused to play v Burnley in solidarity with the staff.

The players that have left did so because the late payments broke their contracts and they could leave.

Seems the owner is just being a massive tosser. Once he received abuse and death threats he pulled the plug and stopped covering operating costs and is now just hiding.

They employed a manager last week and some players staying so I don't think it's quite as had as we were.

Only he can put them into admin and I'm not sure he'd want to pay for that and He still thinks he can get £100m for the club.

They have 15 first team players with more expected to leave as they can walk out of contracts over non payment of wages

The crisis point is in the post

As I read it, not all of the 1st team squad have been paid as there was talk of contracted players exercising their right and leaving this month.

I've long given up trying to understand the economics madhouse that is football but Wednesday this summer is a special case. They were offered £1m compo for their manager from a German side. Turned it down, then watched him leave for nowt when they neglected to pay him. They had 1 year options on Windass and Smith but decided against renewing them and watched them leave for free too. Sold 2 more players at a fraction of their market value yet offered the 67 year old Bannon another year!

they appointed a new manager last week, presumably on a contract as well, after the last one left "by mutual consent", presumably because he wasn't paid

they're just about getting by for now, but have a threadbare squad and are under an embargo so will struggle to bring in new players unless they are out of contract - can't bring in anyone on loan or on a fee - and that's for the next 3 windows

i suspect it's more likely Bannan has signed a contract out of "loyalty" to stick around and help the club out player numbers wise

because good luck to them trying to sign up new players on new contracts when they know the club is in limbo and paying players late each month

they're not a milion miles off where we were going into that coventry game squad wise, they're just not in admin yet like we were

it's nearer to when KA wasn't paying the players and we didn't turn up to play Brentford at the end of the previous season

I think the assets that can be sold are being paid. Other folk / players not

And that’s a very important point, which is disgraceful on the part of the owner.

My post related to the players alone. And continued late (not-non) payment is usually sufficient to allow a player to tear up their contract.

Sounds like Bannan has grown up a bit since he played for us.

Not literally, obviously.

It is perhaps a respectable stance from him, though I would summise that he can afford to wait a little while for his wages, though that is far from knowing.

Other players may not be in a similar position, and may have to leave, whether they want to or not.

I wonder What Team

is this the one you have To play 70%

of the team you played in the League

And if we Lose are we OUT

Nope, this is the league cup - one we played Arsenal in last year. Lose and out out.

It’s definitely a winnable game but I can see quite a bit of rotation.

Morley, Forino, Erhahon, CMG (if fit), Cogley, McAtee will all start IMO

Tempted by this now. Office Wednesday so may head up after

A big motivation to get in to 2nd round is a trip to the new Everton stadium or drawing Manchester United 😆

Not necessarily if they go out of business

Some belting pubs to visit before heading down

Nice chance to see some of the new players that haven’t featured much yet.

quite looking forward to it

I'm expecting loads of changes, then virtually another team entirely at Barnsley.  It will be interesting to see if any player other than TSL that started yesterday also starts the next 2.  Especially with 2 more games the following week.  (I can't think of an alternative to Conway at LB or Burstow at CF but also don't think SS will want them starting all 3, then 2 the following week)

Wouldn’t be surprised if Broome plays over TSL too actually

He’s not going with this, but just trying to put a side out that’s got alternatives for every position

                       Broome

Cogley.      Forino. Inwood.    Johnston

                 Erhahon.  Morley

                        Mcatee

    CMG.                                 Warren

                      Lawrence

Quite a few of them may very well get a start Wednesday. Don’t think Johnston and Lawrence will, which would leave Conway and Burstow having a start again.
