We’ll piss it.

Luck finally turns and we get an early deflected goal.

They can’t just low block / shithouse and so have to come out a bit.

We pick them off for fun.

5-0 - Zico buzzing

You can have the quickest 10 outfield players in the league, but they'll still get nullified by a slow tempo.

We must start moving the ball quicker and also use the full length and width of the pitch.

They're set up very well to nullify teams like ours. Won't be an easy game at all.

Aye, which is why we need the first goal

If we can please for once not concede a soft goal and don't make it difficult for ourselves then that would be great.

Knowing our luck we will be 1-0 down at half time with 75% possession and 15 shots to their 0, with the goal coming from an unexpected gust of wind from the Pennines blowing Teddy Sharman Lowe into his own goal whilst holding the ball.

Yeah, I think the blackout only applies when the PL is also playing

That was the reason given when every match of the first weekend was available yo watch live

Christie (the right back) at left centre back after 45 minutes in the Mickey Mouse Cup? Give your head a shake!

This hatred of Johnston is becoming irrational.

Can you see properly? It's a bench position and a edit

I don't hate Johnston. I don't slag him off. I just don't think he's good enough and have thought this for a good while.

I think Johnston is overly criticised.

He isn't the quickest though, and it doesn't help his game.

No, the image is not showing. However, you’re now suggesting Johnston doesn’t even make the bench. I repeat, give your head a shake!

He was particularly not at the races on Sat tbf.

In the summer when Taylor came in I'd have bet my bottom dollar on him and Forino replacing Toal and GJ.

Not many are getting promotion with the latter at the back.

Forino is no Linford Christie neither though.

OK, there may still be some concerns over their quality, but I think the main issue has been at the other end.

SS signings would indicate he is of a similar view.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't mind seeing Taylor inside Conway, and not competing with him.

At least for a game or two and see how it works.

Same.
Along with Toal & Forino.

love Johnson spirit and never say die attitude but he has lost a yard since his injury.....Taylor  looks like he is not taking Conways place anytime soon and i thought both Firino and Taylor were immense last night and they would be the two starting Saturday against a direct Wimbledon team

Reasonable centre half pairing that.

In all honesty though, do you think SS will go for it?

I don't.

If anything, he might swap Taylor for Conway, which i wouldn't agree with, but the manager has made it clear where he sees Taylor playing.

Hope he does play him at centre half, just can't see it.

Pace is clearly important at centre back, but size, strength and aerial ability (and experience) are key for me in this league.

I just don’t think the Toal/GJ combination gives you it, it’s too weak and has been proven to be time and time again.

Forino has his limitations but I think he’s got to be one of your two centre backs.

Christie had a brilliant 45 mins yesterday and would improve us at right back in my opinion (plus size and strength).

Options are then there as to what you do in the other 2 slots but any combination of the below looks a hell of a lot more sturdy than the current back 4

Christie Toal Forino Taylor/Conway

Christie Forino Taylor Conway

Christie Forino GJ Taylor

Since his knee injury, I feel like he has struggled a bit when defending one-on-one

Forino was immense last night!

Based on the very little I saw last night and Christie’s background

JDC Christie Taylor Conway is also an option. You can swap Taylor and GJ but Toal and Forino should be playing LCB .

The fact that the three centre halves are part of this strange captaincy group SS has come up with to me shows none of them are the out and out leader we have been missing for years.

Forino and taylor should start on Saturday, or should I say i would like to see them start.   Christie won't start but matter of time (wigan h).

This more or less changes our back 4 from last season which is the current popular topic.

In ss we trust.

Good defenders don’t need to have the quickest legs as long as they have the quickest brain. Johnston’s defending for the goal on Saturday was dreadful on all counts, giving far too much time and space and then showing him on to his stronger foot. It was a very routine, isolated position that their mon received the ball and simply shouldn’t have turned in to anything close to being able to get a shot on goal.

There seems to be a lot of assumptions of form/ability on the back of last night's game.

I don't know how many of these glorified friendlies we have to play year after year for us to accept that they bear no relation whatsoever to a league game.

Rotherham were the worst team we'll play this season, apart from the other 2 group games.

Collins scored 6 goals in 5 games in this competition last season.  No defender had a stormer last night, its not possible when the opposition are hardly attacking.

A stormer would be the Lincoln players defending for their lives for 95 minutes, not heading a few corners clear or tackling an 18 year old a few times.

A good exercise in fitness and minutes on the pitch for new players etc, all well worthwhile and useful, but that's all.
