might have been mentioned already

but I've just remembered

When GJ went for a header with the Wigan player that put them both on their arse for a few minutes right in front of me in the WSL/SSL corner

the noise it made when GJ's face went into the back of the Wigan's player's head

I'm surprised there was no blood or broken nose and both carried on a few minutes later

A nasty one

He definitely shouldn't have carried in

I was thinking Johnston because you mentioned him and he's our player but, yeah, really both

Wouldn't surprise me if that's one of those tales that comes out in a few years that Johnston couldn't remember the rest of that match. Certainly played like he was a bit out of it after that

Then played again 3 days later!

But surely if there were any concerns he wouldn’t have played against kids on the Tuesday? It did sound terrible and he did play like he was seeing double after it!

Football's shit at managing concussion

The rules don’t help. After it happened, I said to my mate that, in Rugby League, both players would have left the pitch for a Head Impact Assessment, with substitutes allowed. If the player(s) passed the HIA, they could return to the match and the substitutes withdrawn.

This flexible use of substitutes should be introduced for head injuries in football. It’s much safer for the players.

What a can of worms that would open.

Who could possibly object?

Coaches, fitness staff, players themselves. It's not a comparable sport, the amount of muscular injuries that system would cause isn't worth it.

Plus, as soon as players start feigning head injuries to get certain players on situationally, that's when you're in muddy waters.

Why are footballers more at risk of muscular injuries than the rugby players, who don’t have these problems.

The decision is made by a medic who examines the player on the pitch.

With the very real concerns of dementia in ex-footballers, it’s important to change thinking around head injuries.

Do you not see the physical appearance of a Rugby player is noticably different to a footballer?

Try answering the question.

If HIA substitutions were introduced, why would footballers be at risk of muscular injuries?

Rugby players are trained and built for brute force and heavy impact with other Rugby players. Footballers are trained and built for running and tapping a ball about. Are you really this thick?
