Can’t right us off just yet… we smashed Oxford at home then a few months later they beat us at Wembley… league is so poor it can happen again.

It’s very poor which I sort of alluded to earlier. Do as we might we can’t get out of the playoff places.

That was also the case last season, but we managed it in the end.

I wouldn't be complacent that all the other teams are going to sit and wait for us to sort our shit out.

Come on desperado let’s hear your balanced view please .

Same old story, lads.
We don't take our chances and the opposition do.

I don't want to jump on the SS bandwagon, but singling two players out a minute before HT was bizarre at best.
All he's done there is piss two players off, two players who've been amongst our better performers this season.
Wait until half-time, calmly explain you're changing shape and there's no issue. Instead you drag two off who both looked very angry about it.

I think ‘same old story’ and not taking our chances is being very generous. They had more possession, more shots, more shots on target, more passes, more succesful passes and high % of tackles won.

We were second best all over the pitch and despite a good spell around the time we scored were well off the pace. Yes Burstow should at least hit the target and not sure why goal was disallowed but it is papering over the cracks, they were the better team.

I was dead in line for their first goal and could have sworn it was off side but Toal for some reason is miles deeper than he needs to be.

Only  upside is our train back was delayed by 31 minutes on the way back due to some naughty Bolton fans, so we should get a partial refund and The Yard Of Ale was a decent pub !

Wev'e had some bad performances recently, but that 1st half has to be the worst of the season.

Why? He above being subbed?

Flatters to deceive that fella.

I think the issue was over the unnecessary timing.

And if Sheehan is poor, what do you make of his midfield colleagues?  Just deceive without the flatter?

You come off the pitch after being subbed and display any sort of anger you can get fucked for me

It ain’t about you.

If relatively calm and level headed players like Gale and Sheehan are showing anger at a manager's decision, imagine what we'd have seen from a fiery character.  It says more about the decision that the anger came from them than if it had been Diouff for eg.

The guy's the boss & can do as he chooses ... but doing it to two, uninjured players with two minutes to go speaks volumes. Decent, level headed, ones at that. He made it look personal.

If Sheehan asks for a move this week I'd not be surprised.

It's a model of 'how to lose the dressing room'. He certainly went down in my estimation with that one move alone.

Aye, It was the timing of it that made it look like a public shaming & since neither player had shown a lack of effort it seemed unnecessary. No problem if it had been done at h/t.

It also gave their manager an early heads up to our changes & chance to react at h/t.

Certainly a strange decision so close to half time and bound to embarrass the -layers involved.

He’s all fancy pirouettes and then lays it off square or backwards.

Easy on the eye but with no end product. Just frustrates me.

I agree, yet he's better than this & has more to offer. Which makes it seem to be a requested tactic.

As I've said, when SS sees us struggling he all too readily reverts to tippy-tap & all the issues Evatt-ball brought.

For me gale decided he didn't need to track back all half and let kioso have free reign he also decided to fluff 3 glorious chances and stick 2 of them 5 yards over the bar, I reckon ss had seen enough.

Sheehan was the strange one and the timing stranger.

Fair enough, we all see players differently.  I love watching him play in home games (I don't enjoy watching any of our team away, who does?).  His composure and ability to maintain possession and find space where others can't.  He can also drive at a defence and beat his opponent for skill, he's done that a few times lately and not something we see from other central midfielders.

I feel like the "no end product" phrase gets overused, as if every pass other than one that ends in a goal is deemed pointless or lacking in skill and creativity, but his main job is to get us up the pitch and he does it better than most IMO, we had far worse midfielders when we were in the championship.  He's terrible at corners though, no argument there.

I watched him carefully do that for Wales.

Helped them keep the ball moving, and beat a press occasionally, but little positivity, as you say.

We know he has a touch of quality, but league one is always going to be his zenith.

If he had that touch of physicality about him, he would have been in a higher league by now.

Maybe so, but when compared across just our league it’s a comparable metric - ie same non-calibration for all of us.

Is it flawed? Yes. Does it put a statistic to what we all see on the pitch? Yes.

Even today we miss a sitter and several ‘good’ chances. Gale had a couple in the first 20 mins that weren’t pot shots, Burstow misses another sitter. xG just puts a number to it and compared to the rest of the league we can’t finish our dinner.

But the point is lower ability players will be less likely to score these harder (low xg) chances than the easier ones, so at our level it should really be recalibrated to say for example:

"that 0.3 xg chance from outside the box is more like 0.15 in league 1. Whereas that easy 0.7 xg chance would likely still stay 0.67"

*Numbers plucked out of my arse but the principle is valid.

Point I'm making is we're playing badly no matter what xg says

There. I've said it.

Aye.

Got it's place, but all a bit "buzz word".

Sheehan had zero reason to be embarrassed. The manager had tried to tweak the system, it wasn’t working and it didn’t look like it was going to work. We were trailing by a goal and the more the half dragged on, the more it looked like Posh were going to double their lead - so the manager made a decisive move to change the system to ensure we got into the dressing room only a goal down - and that system didn’t require Sheehan. It’s a squad game and nobody should be miffed by being subbed for tactical reasons.

Gale on the other hand, was part of the reason we were getting stuffed - he didn’t defend and he was wank in attack. He had every right to feel embarrassed - by his own performance.

Oh, I agree fully, but we could well have been a couple of goals to the good before they scored.

And that fucking AI can piss off whilst we’re at it. And why do we need electric cars? And don’t get me started on emails, what were wrong with a written letter? 😂😂

It was a lot better when, if you wanted to call for the manager's head, you had to write a letter to the BEN, post it and wait to see if it appeared in the week 😊
