My starting point was hard to play against, hence JDC ahead of Desmond.

The problem with 4 in midfield imo is that none of them are known for getting up with a beyond the forwards, apart from occasionally Dempsey. So the front 2 could get isolated and with no ‘out’ ball we become easy to play against.

The other option is to try and match the line up from the home game. But assume they will have changed since then

I think we are at back to the drawing board stage, we get over run in midfield most weeks. A midfield 4 would nullify most of Wigans threat, may be a drab 0-0 but i think most will take that now

He swapped to wing backs against us for the game at ours, get whalloped first half and changed system with 3 subs at half time.

Wigan lot couldn't understand why he did as it played into our hands.

Ah right so we probably won't see it again this Saturday :(

I reckon your spot on mate.

Taking both my lads for the first time at weekend, praying for their sake we scab a 1-0 win by any means necessary. Even if as @Ani says just being hard to break down and nicking a goal. I just cannot see it at the moment.

The optimist in has a vision of all the players, management and backroom staff together for a photograph in front of a packed away end celebrating a 4-0 victory.

To be clear that is our players and staff..

If ever there was a game to get us back on track then it should be this one.  We absolutely battered them earlier in the season, so SS should sit them down and watch a replay of the game.  Gale and ACD terrorising them down the wings. Simons and Erhahon dominating the midfield, Forss and Burstow looking like goal-scorers.

But given how we have been playing of late, I just can't see anything other than us being absolutely pumped.

Really hope I'm wrong.

This game either gives us a massive confidence boost and gets us back on track ... or things turn very toxic very quickly.

Visions of SS storming the pitch dressed like the penguin trying to have a rumble with their players at the final whistle.

2-1 Bolton

All of them available and fit for the weekend. Absolutely no reason why we can’t play that team that turned em over at home

Indeed.

Trouble is 'that team' is currently a shadow of what they were when we played them at home.

highly like a defeat

will be very moody in that away end

huge week ahead with another away to follow it

They were still travelling at four times the speed limit on the wrong side of the road; feel sorry for the taxi driver’s family and the people in the taxi

Could be an interesting atmosphere on Saturday and I mean within our own lot, can see a lot of shouty conversations in the stands!

That lot will be pissin emselves at us.

I think no matter how saturday goes the xi that wear our shirt on saturday need the full support of the 4500 fans.

They do, but they also need to do their part on the pitch. It can’t be one way, they need to give us something to get behind - even if it’s just some big tackles, someone charging the full back down at 100mph and blocking the clearance (ie Kev Davies). Take it upon yourself to get the fans on side and you’ll get it in spades.

Slowly passing our way from the wings back to the keeper via 60 different passes, followed by a boot up field and losing the header (rinse and repeat) will not get the fans going for an early kick off on the current run.

Sorry you lost, Bolton fans. Anyway, we're locking you in the away end for 30 mins after full time to let you all stew on it 😬

Mr Tickle says their going to try and make their fans proud. So one game in a whole season is going to make them proud. Their 15th in the league. We have to find a way to be positive and go and attack them in their Cup Final and get a result.

How apt.

They will be well up for it, can we respond ? First goal as usual will be crucial.

We’re always good for conceding at least once. Sounds ridiculously unambitious, but can we really go there and score twice?

Probably not tbh .

No such thing as a drab 0-0 away for us, drab is losing by 1 or 2 and not looking like scoring.  Having a game on a knife edge for 95 minutes when not playing relegation candidates would be progress for SS.

Tough to see there is much for us in this. Our away form since August has been pretty hopeless and obviously our form overall since that shambles at Swindon has been awful and, if anything, worsening.

The overall mood is very down. However it just has to be put to one side for this fixture. The 4500 present have an important contribution to make.

Clearly the team have to up their game to a huge degree after some of the recent no-shows. However it is also clear that confidence is low and we still have a team without any real natural leaders. The comments of Cyrus Christie were quite revealing the other day.

If Wigan are on top in the game, if we go a goal down, or even if we just make some mistakes, it is important the away end just shrugs if off and creates relentless noise, encouragement and impetus - right through the game. If it is another poor performance the time for a moan is after the game.

Tub-thumping rallying cries of this nature on a forum are a bit cringeworthy if I am honest but all of the above is unquestionably true. Even if the fans only have influence over 10 per cent of what goes on from 1230 on Saturday, we have to be maximising that full ten per cent.

Looking at the table both sides have similar form and we are 8 goals ahead in the gd stakes.

The problem iappears to be motivating this set of players... hopefully the fixture will be the catalyst.

I'ĺl be well happy with an away point.
