Really is a big game this.

Heading to the abyss of the season this is where we really do need to make a statement and start kicking on.

Last week was much bigger for me and is a memory to keep for a lot longer than the dross we watched today.

A few things, it's not a derby game, it's a game we didn't dominate especially early on, it's also a game where ACD come off and it improved us going forward substantially, it's a game we won after changing to the formation to the same one SS used to get Plymouth promoted.

This is why it was a big game.

 

Bad news Duberry might have ACL. But think we might get more wins with the big lumps who finished the game today rather than light weight wingers, give the wingers a rest and bring them back fresh when the weather improves  also I’d like us to call time on playing a number 10 pack the midfield with ball winners and let’s bludgeon our way out of this league.

Let's face it. That was dross today. I'll take the three points of course - but by Christ it was a hard watch. 

Also - I genuinely thought we were playing Lincoln City until about 70 minutes - so nobody should ever listen to my opinion on anything (not that anyone does anyway) 😂

Did it fuck, we looked lost without him or Sheehan for most of today. scabbed a pen at 90mins. For the rest of the match we were shit all across the park whatever the formation.

A win is a win and being in 3rd is nice but the performance was awful

We looked worse before he went off, this is just a fact. 

There's a real 'what have the Romans ever done for us' about the growing idea that we'd be better off without Duberry (and to a lesser extent, Gale).

10 goals and 10 assists between them, with Gale missing a big chunk through injury. Without them we're one paced and carry literally zero goal threat (outside of corners hitting defenders on the hand).

Seems unlikely it’s an ACL is SS said he’s now walking around without a brace. Any suspicion of an ACL they’d surely insist on strapping as a minimum.

Oh, & the keeper.

Certainly better that TSL but on 4 occasions he passed to someone in the D who was marked.

Let's hope he's got that out of his system.

The problem isn't really them, it's a manager who's entire attacking tactics seems to be get the ball to Gale and ACD no matter what, then once they get it, they only seem to cut inside to shoot. 

There is zero variety in how we attack when those 2 are playing, so it's predictable and easy to defend against.

The irony is his long passing is good quality, one great ball out of his hands first half that nearly put McAtee through, a great 40 yard drilled ball to the left in 1st half, a kick in the 2nd half to Dalby's head that put us on the front foot.  SS can take pelters for asking him to put us under pressure unnecessarily.  And more the fool Bonham for listening to him.

Did you watch and see Gale’s goal today where he went on the outside and scored with his left foot??!!

I'm as happy as you are with the 3 points, its not the sign of a good team, its just one L1 team getting a penalty near the end and the other not getting a break.  Same as when we beat Orient 2-1 last season with a late pen also, that wasn't the sign of a good team as proved by subsequent results, it was just a win that might have been a draw.

We might become a good team with a couple of good additions, but we aren't currently.

Over reliance in a way.

Enforced changes also asked different questions of our opponents. 

More than one way to skin a cat.

Nevertheless, we will miss him/them and will need to find plan B, C, D etc.

A poor, disjointed performance, we desperately missed Sheehan, but the 3 points could be crucial.

Dalby was probably pick of our players, Toal & Johnson defended well enough & Forino did well when he came on..........he should start on Tuesday, not for a change of system but because we should play our strongest defender against bastard Burton.

& McAtee, I don't know why he stayed on so long !!

I'm sticking with Wigan away was bigger, I can't say I'm invested in whether SS uses the same formation as he did at Plymouth, we've won with both and had that dire game at Stevenage with 5 at the back.  Probably got promoted at Plymouth because he had better players.

If we had to replay those games this week and we could only choose to win one, Wigan every time for me but nobody has to agree.

That was my beef in the week with the mindless Twitterati popping on about McAtee and giving it out whenever they see him warming up. Does fuck all for the confidence of the lad on the pitch who's trying his best even if things aren't going for him. Was the case at Wigan and Stevenage. He did ok in both cameos, fair enough, but he isnt good enough, intelligent enough or fit enough. 

None of that matters of course to a section of our fanbase only see a Turkey toothed socks down baller they've got a simple little song about.

Burstow's body language has been a bit down over the last couple of weeks but the ability is there and he stood up today in a pressure situation. I know who I'd sooner put my support behind.

Wigan was a blip the last few months is the norm that was absolute shit yet again but we got the win and that’s what counts . We are slow predictable two shots on target in the first half if SS is trying to drive the crowds down he is doing a good job 

We really missed Sheehan today.

I'm guessing @Tonge moor green jacket confused it with the almost identical pass from McAtee to Gale in the same position which Gale wasted.  One pass becomes an assist, one becomes a pass nobody remembers.  That was McAtee's best minute, he burst forward from our half and linked play a couple of times, but as someone who wanted him in the team, I have to say he was disappointing today, the worst he's looked all season.  Very rare for a no.10 to start a game this season and look any good, coming on as sub seems to bring out better performances.

Dalby MOM for me but thought Erhahon was excellent, too. We do need to find someone how to keep the ball ticking over if Sheehan isn’t playing, though.

Absolutely crying out for Dalby to play in a front two, preferably alongside Burstow but I’d have no issues in McAtee having half an hour up there every week.

I think Bonham started getting a bit panicky when the crowd were getting restless, and the little carry on between him and Johnston could really have cost us on another day so hopefully they’ll figure that one out in the video session.

Thought Christie did well considering he can’t run, but we need to be looking at 3-5-2 going forward.

All means nowt if we don’t get a win on Tuesday.
