But that just shouldn’t happen should it. These are experienced players not kids yet they just seem to go to pieces. We’ll be very lucky to get a draw here.

That's a classic.

Fantastic first half… thankfully we had the back up on bench to close the door on the comeback,  the scrap at the station was touch naughty… be some arrests methinks.

Bonham MOTM.

Dalby for me, by some distance.  All 4 CBs and EE played very well too, and McAtee.

Bonham 3 decent saves, first one was top drawer, surely the first keeper this season to make 3 saves in one game, and not sure we had many of those last season either.

So pleased the way super Sam has developed. He is a proper handful and is a bit too honest about being fouled. McAtee also has raised his game, very much a confidence player. Apter and CBT are upgrades and competition for places is healthy. RR and JK will push for a place too.

The handball from their keeper was a disgrace, we could see 3 seconds out what was happening and the lino was in a perfect position, its his call.

Forino also improving in time on the pitch.

EE gave it away a handful of time particularly in the 1st half, needs a bit more composure at times, but he is tenacious in the tackle. I wonder where sheehan fits in now, we've not really missed him. Dempsey was more involved today and his corners were excellent.

So many positives going forward. A bottle tester next week.

I deliberately didn't look at any pre 5.15pm posts knowing full well what would be lurking in those "in play" depths  .... so yeah, thanks for that 🤣

I never played at any great level, but would always try to face up to shot and block it if possible.

There's obviously a touch of "instinct" involved- call it self preservation- but they have to try and overcome it.

Not going to pile on though, as it is so common.

Surely its human instinct to want the ball to hit your back/arse than the stomach/bollocks/face?

Players have gone off injured after being hit by the ball full on, I don't think I've ever seen anyone go off injured when its hit them from behind.  Seems logical and natural to want to minimise pain and injury.

You could be right , I dunno what his attitude is but he looked well up for it for 60 mins . His press was great first half and I think hed just burned out after an hour .

Press = running about looking ‘busy’

When it come to putting a foot or head in, he’s nowhere to be seen. Absolute charlatan

Having a player like Dalby away at Lincoln next weekend is going to be absolutely massive.

No injuries please.

Lincoln and Cardiff look untouchable but we can beat anybody on our day. And under Schuey I have faith in him when it comes to the really big games.

Long way to go still.

They have some big, strong lads iirc.

Won't be as easy for him to dominate his defenders, but equally, him continuing to play well should make it difficult for them.

First half was as good as it gets. It should have been 6.

Front foot, looked like we’d score every time we went forward, a centre forward bullying their defence, multiple players causing problems and finally looking like a proper threat from set pieces!

Funny that 3-0 never feels properly like it’s done - if the keeper doesn’t pull off a worldy in the 4th minute of injury time to deny Blackett-Taylor then it’s 4-0 and absolutely game over. 4-0 feels so much different to 3-0.

Second half they came out a different team but I thought we’d killed it off when we got through the first 5-10 mins unscathed. The deflected goal just can’t be helped (noticed Connell put his hands up as if to apologise to the home fans and just walked back to the half way line) but clearly it then gave them the boost they needed. The second was naive from us - Forino took a knock in a challenge and never recovered which meant GJ was pulled into centre back as the ball came over and it left the man over. We should have found a way to stop play, either with dark arts or legitimately.

We did really well to stabilise and looked more likely to make it 4-2 than they did equalise. Still annoyingly nerve wrecking though, especially with the ref giving them drop balls on the edge of the area in the 94th minute, the twat.

Dalby immense. Forino, Bonham, McAtee and Erhahon all worth a mention. Dempsey really good first half but I think he loses his legs quickly in the second which leaves us really open when he’s one of the two in midfield. Both wingers really strong first half but not great second. Tutu looking solid - real shame about his injury.

Not sure if Gale has spat his dummy out after the 43rd minute sub and then having Blackett Taylor come straight in ahead of him, but he was fucking useless when he came on. Couldn’t have looked less arsed when we needed all hands on deck - I noticed McAtee giving him a right bollocking at one point.

Big 3 points. In the expected category but very much a ‘good win’. Let’s see what we can do next week - anything is possible with Super Sam Dalby in this form.

My 1st game back since the new years and absolutely loved it.

Dalby is a menace - stick a number 14 on his back as a sign of respect.

Entertaining football is all I ask for, lets call it 'The Bolton Way' from now on.

As a side note, we think Sheehan "runs the game" when he has loads of the ball and makes loads of passes. Luca Connell in the 2nd half, that's how you properly run a game of football. Scruff of the neck, dominate the midfield and drive forward.

He'll do for me.

How good was Dalby, I reckon he won 80% plus every long ball sent up to him.

Accused him previously of looking more like a long distance runner than a target man, and happy to be completely wrong.

Blackett Taylor looks a big upgrade on Gale in the flesh. And Apter will win us some points along the way

Lots to be happy about, 3 points, an unreal first half performance, and them lot getting banged 6-1.

Time for a 3 degree cold n gold. Coywm!

CBT does look an upgrade on the current version of Gale.  I think its easy to forget how good he was at times pre-Christmas in plenty of games, its the right call to drop him but its not long since that sublime winner goal v Orient and the good finish at Peterboro.  CBT wasn't that outstanding today that he's a step up on that version of Gale.

Apter disappointing today.  I'm sure he'll improve, but currently we're missing ACD not only for his obvious goals and assists but his ability to win the ball back which Apter doesn't seem to have, looked nackered 2nd half and lacked quality, was wasteful.

Been critical of Dalby and labelled him as a cart horse, but the last few weeks he's been exceptional, finally playing to his strengths, and the closest to super kev we've had.

I actually think we wouldnt have had half the strife we did in that second half if Sheehan was on the pitch.

Appreciate it’s all hypothetical, and frankly we won so we don’t need to pick holes in things, but I do agree. We were our own worst enemy at times - it all got a bit frantic and rather than slowing it down and taking the sting out of it, we kept going with quick free kicks, Bonham catching it when he could had chested and waited for the striker etc. and just generally turning the ball over really quickly. Sheehan would have got hold of it, done 19 pirouettes and just took the sting out.

Never mind, he can do it with fresh legs when we’re 2-0 up next Saturday.

Thought CBT was an absolute Rolls Royce tbf. Head and shoulders above so many and just looked so effortless.

Absolutely.

Everything McAtee isn’t.

After playing so bad for 2 games he probably took little pleasure in creating the only goal last week and scoring the winner today.  Small consolation.  Get Randall, Forss or Burstow back as 2nd striker.

Not doubting there’s a footballer in there, but his attitude is fucking  rank.

For all his faults - heading as you say, sometimes blaming others unnecessarily, tendency to try the impossible occasionally - I'd say his attitude is one of his strong points.  I wish one or 2 others had what he's got, eg Gale and Randall.  He's one of those team players that doesn't just concern himself with his own performance, he just wants the team to win however its achieved.  Simons and Conway have that too, as shown by reactions when they're on the bench, not all players are invested in the result above their own situation.

Fair play to McAtee. Looked like his days were numbered but he's dug in, clearly lost a bit of timber, sharpened his act up and played himself into the team.

Runs his socks off and clearly cares.

Rather him than some fucker like Gale who clearly has all the talent but would rather sulk.

Gale's had a cob on since that early hooking and was pathetic today, scared of getting anywhere near the ball or any physical contact and, on the couple of occasions he touched the ball, wasted it.

We were a bit thin on options to bring on today in that sort of circumstances

He certainly has more 'awareness' he's also more direct into the box, and less greedy,  I like him, think he'll do well.

Hes more nimble and pacey than I expected
