Wycombe Wanderers (H)

Has this been cancelled or something? - can’t see a thread for our next game on Saturday. If there is one please merge.

Anyhoo, it’s a tough one but we’re at home. All of a sudden, they are 2 points off the playoffs and have a game in hand on Huddersfield in 6th so there’s no way they won’t be fired up for this. They’ve been scoring for fun at home this last month, less so away but they have players all over the park that can find the net including Mr Morley, formerly of this parish.

They must be thinking playoffs in which case they need something off us…..but we’re not going to give them anything are we?

Scoring goals so late so regularly isn’t luck. It’s belief in themselves and a reluctance to accept defeat. In part by the fact that opposition are just absolutely fucked at the end and also that neve

We've beaten two teams above Wycombe all season (both with last minute winners). So I expect it'll be close because all of our games are, barring last week.

I just love the fact that at the moment, after Saturdays win, we are looking up the table and not down, but doing it with a perspective that in reality it’s all good prep for the play-offs.

But…any slips above….we’re there… lurking…. just in case.

Love the talk of the ifs whats and maybes with Lincoln/Cardiff

How many have we lost?

Yes we will need to do better to go up, but that's because of poor results elsewhere.

Iles' piece in the BEN was pretty realistic on the size of the task at hand. While he misses out the crucial bit of info on biggest lead given up to drop out of the autos at the start of March he said 10points has never been done and then talked of some historic big comebacks which were 5pt gaps or 4 PTS and a game in hand ...

So not a realistic option, which hopefully suits us well for getting ready for this playoff challenge in form and keep a top 4 spot, without any "near miss" regrets

Our gradual run has seen us leapfrog our nearest run, and largely overcome their games in hand.

In most seasons, you'd be confident of overcoming a points deficit, but the top teams simply haven't let up.

Fair play to them.

Yeh.

Crazy to think this run isn’t having us up there challenging…. yet.

One.

P9 W2 D6 L1 GD 0

Plus a defeat to Wycombe themselves.

So it'll be close. Which is what I said.

And one of our better wins of the season if we get it.

I forgot Stockport away! Wycombe winning now, Morley on target!

I suppose the issue is we're all (rightly) pleased with getting more than 2 points a game over 10 games.  The top 2 have been doing that since August or September.  We're showing promotion form now which is great, but to finish top 2 you have to do that all season and if we're honest we haven't deserved to be any higher than 3rd.

Thought Wycombe were decent tonight. Pretty solid at the back with McGoldrick etc not getting a sniff, used their goalie a lot, kept their shape, fairly defence minded. Hopefully our strikers will do better.
Morley’s goal was a great strike but he should never have been allowed to step on to the ball unchallenged, especially as a high percentage of their crosses were pull backs to the edge of the box - something we need to be aware of.
Play well, no daft mistakes and we’ll beat them.

At this point I don't think there's really any pressure on us. The top 2 are at least 10 points ahead, have been there virtually all season and we've got by far the hardest run in.

Handbrake off, fuck it, let's just go for it. We've been in great form. Try our best to cement 3rd at the least. But let's just try and get as many points as we can. If we can make the top 2 sweat right to the very end then all the better.

Judging from the highlights, somebody must have forgotten to tell the people of Barnsley that there was a game on.

Barnsley were very poor last night and I think they will have or should have far more problems from us to contend with than Barnsley have them.  Fatigue may be a factor for them so let’s have a fast start get an early goal as if they score first the time wasting will start like it did last night

Barnsley's catching up of games may be affecting their legs a touch.

How many points did we make up on Port Vale under Bruce . IIRC we won 13 drew 1 lost 1 out of the last 15 games.

Of the teams we have yet to face, Stevenage, Donny, Vale and Stockport have at least 2 more games to play than us between now and end of the season. Luton too

They’ll finish closer to relegation than the play offs. Fans have given up and it looks like the players have - only 38 year old McGoldrick looked like he was trying last night. They really were shite.

I think we put 5 past these. 5-1

Crikey.

The Morley factor alone is a worry.

Correct, but by Christ we've drawn too many.
