If folk are getting ahead of themselves and still talking about automatic promotion- which would basically require us to beat most of the top teams in the toughest run in of any side - they must surely expect us to win this game comfortably.
I hope for that to happen but I sure as hell don’t expect it. We have to perform at our best every time and so far we haven’t shown that level of consistency.
As SS himself says, one game at a time, one performance at a time - and we’ll see where it takes us.

I'm expecting 7 wins from the last 11. Any more points than 21-22 a bonus, fewer a bit of a disappointment.

I don’t think anyone is thinking autos a team in the top two positions in league one has never blown a lead in March this size it’s not happening and there both on a better run than ours anyway with a easier run in .

22pts from our last 11 games gives us 83pts, meaning that Bradford and Stockport would need 25 & 27 respectively from 12 games to deny us a top 4 finish and a home 2nd leg in the play-offs.

In fact with our superior GD they'd need 26 & 28 and I can't see both doing that.

11 wins for us is highly unlikely but it still means the top 2 only need to maintain their 2ppg to deny us automatic.

So, it's 3rd (4th at worst) for us IMO.

I think if we fail to win any of the next 5 it will be a bit of disappointment.   Its easier said than done and I don't take any win for granted but with 3 at home and 2 relegation strugglers away, why wouldn't we be expecting 15 points?  That would mean only winning 2 of the last 6 of which 3 are at home against teams below us.

That would be poor form to take into the play offs.

I'm looking at winning all our home games (not saying its easy, but neither are the play offs) and the only away game where a defeat isn't a bad result is Cardiff.  A loss at either Plymouth or Bradford wouldn't bode well for the play offs.  Saying that, the Bradford game could be their reserves against our reserves if there'e nothing to play for.

A draw at Bradford can't be a bad result, surely?

Agreed, a draw at any top 6 team away is a good result.

I'd just expect us to win more than 2 of the last 6 as a rough guide (OK 4 draws and 2 wins wouldn't cause alarm).   We'll need to win 2 out of 3 play off matches.

Not at all, they actually have a better home record than us.

If Cardiff or Lincoln win, three points are dropped by the teams above us. If they draw, four points are dropped. A draw is the best result for us.

Both teams gain a point, or one gains nowt.

Second place will do, so a defeat is better for us.

Being somewhat pedantic, does anyone actually drop points?

Teams only gain them.

Sorry lads but we’ve been the nearly men all season.

I know we pumped Exeter last week but we were hardly convincing first half and also looked rattled when they scored for 5-10 mins. Not a fucking chance we’ll win enough games. We’d need to win every game for me and still expect one of the top two to lose potentially 4 and a couple of draws.

Never happening in a million years. We’ve already blown it.

Third at best

Not sure that that summary of last week is a fair reflection.

They have been doing quite well.

If we limited them to a 5 or 10 minute good spell then that's bloody good going away.

Professional, proving first half. Gradually get on top, and then go for the jugular.

Brilliant.

Of course we've got very little chance of autos, but that is down to inconsistency earlier on, and two very consistent teams above us.

Whilst I've accepted a playoff situation the little chance we have of auto's are by catching Cardiff.

Now folk have conceded we can't catch Lincoln do they think we can catch Cardiff

They've been above Lincoln all season

Is it just because we play them?

If we can finish above Cardiff, let's for argument sake say we'd need to win every game.

If we do that, there's a chance we could also finish above Lincoln (eg if they draw tomorrow).

We're 150/1 with Skybet if anyone fancies it.

Bradford can get as many points as us and they are 500/1!  Explain that.

About what? Seems pretty clear from the two posts you quoted he has made his mind up I.e. that he thinks we won’t overtake either of the top two but will get promoted via the playoffs.

That's exactly what poster's have said.

A logical approach to an impossible situation.

A preview of Cardiff's forthcoming fixtures.

After Lincoln:

Barnsley away. Tykes smarting, but still chance of playoffs. Draw.

Exeter away. Grecians still smarting. Draw.

Wycombe home. Wycombe still smarting (😀) and in with a chance of playoffs offs. Draw.

Blackpool home. Relegation still a possibility and having to fight to stay up sees the effluent coasters surprise their hosts. Draw.

Huddersfield away. Home team still with a chance of playoffs offs pull off a win to a panicking bluebirds.

Port Vale home. Vale doomed and relaxed play with freedom. Nevertheless Cardiff scab a win with a last minute disputed penalty.

Peterborough away. Home team on a run and wanting a play off birth. Draw.

Us, home. We consolidate our narrow, single point position in second to 4 points.

Reading away. Home team in with a chance of playoffs. Draw.

Northampton home. Nobby does us a favour. Draw. Bolton promoted.

Mansfield away. Relaxed and a solid win as they hold onto third above Bradford.

Carlsberg.

Like it! Very good.

There is a tiny chance we make top two, but let’s make sure we do our best to maximise that chance from our results. If the wheels do come off for either of Lincoln or Cardiff ensure we make them pay. Based on their current results just seems very unlikely.

But equally taking the foot off the gas and thinking we can just meander into play offs could be fatal and it might be our wheels coming off and we also need momentum going into play offs. So let’s batter a few teams in coming weeks.

There are so many variables. I had a similar alcohol-fuelled dream to TMGJ except  I was playing 10, scored most of our goals and celebrated every one by banging the Portuguese waitress from our local caff in front of the opposition dugout. At my age that took about as long as a VAR check.

To me, everything depends on us.  Whilst the early signs are that Dalby and Kenny have the makings of a long overdue potentially potent strike partnership, there are still questions throughout the team and we have to come up with the answers, starting today. The rest is out of our hands.

A win today is the most important thing, but if you want fantasy, how about a mass brawl between Cardiff and Lincoln resulting in 22 red cards and lengthy bans for violent conduct and bringing the game into disrepute? Maybe the odd death and a bunch of season-ending injuries thrown in? We’ll see.

Ok ok I back down! 😂

But you’ve got to admit the tone of the two posts couldn’t have been any more stark! One talking about us going up to the premier league. The other telling us to calm down, we’re nearly men who’ve blown it!

I would counter that by saying we are miles apart from the team we had before Christmas. New keepers. Cogley gone Firino at last cementing a place in the middle. Erhahon at last fit and first choice in the centre. Wingers who can cross and other wingers stepping up Dalby another who has hit form since Christmas and a secondary striker hopefully more deployed. Then a bench that is the envy of the league.......Unbeaten and not the same team since new year
