Wycombe Wanderers (H)

Has this been cancelled or something? - can’t see a thread for our next game on Saturday. If there is one please merge.

Anyhoo, it’s a tough one but we’re at home. All of a sudden, they are 2 points off the playoffs and have a game in hand on Huddersfield in 6th so there’s no way they won’t be fired up for this. They’ve been scoring for fun at home this last month, less so away but they have players all over the park that can find the net including Mr Morley, formerly of this parish.

They must be thinking playoffs in which case they need something off us…..but we’re not going to give them anything are we?

Scoring goals so late so regularly isn’t luck. It’s belief in themselves and a reluctance to accept defeat. In part by the fact that opposition are just absolutely fucked at the end and also that neve

Honestly you should try it some day.

There’s loads of options now!

All equipped and staffed to expect numbers pre and post game

The Hotel, Blanco Lounge, Los Iguanas, Hollywood Bowl. Harvester is a good option these days. Two fanzones. And Nam Ploy yesterday was fantastic - loved how they kept rewinding the winning goal on the big screen! 🤣👏

Live Sport, table service, celebrating with mates and like-minded fans after such a great comeback. For me it’s an essential part of the game day experience.

Loved it yesterday

Namploy is the best option on the retail park, but it still doesn't feel right drinking in a restaurant

I've not really had a proper drink at a home game since scotts shut

That away end is laughable by the way.

Fuckin mega!

Some interesting tactics talk.

I’m generally in agreement with those who realise that changes need to be made from week to week to optimise our performance against different sides. Sticking with a winning side just isn’t a solution to promotion.

But I also think it’s an impossible conundrum as a fan to be calling out “what should have happened” or “what should be happening” in the next game.

Yet in contrast to my second paragraph I understand why yesterday and on other occasions, he may play the same side.

The best example in my eyes as to why it’s not straightforward is Conway’s selection.

I’d liked to have seen him start yesterday. I think he’s great and he showed it when he came on. But I also see what Johnston brings. IMO we are less likely to get caught with a ball over the top or down the left channel with Johnston on. Also he doesn’t overlap or get caught out of position like Conway does.

I think we will justifiably see both there in games between now and the end of the season.

And you could multiply that debate by 5/6 when you compare midfield, wing and forwards options

I’m in same square as you on this mate. I don’t enjoy being by the ground anymore. Don’t get me wrong I was in nam ploy yesterday celebrating but I’ve changed my routines so much because of it. Nam ploy is good but …….

Obviously CBT is getting the focus, but I very much liked Ruben Rodriguez performance.

Whadda game football is. That emotion for the last 10 mins just doesn’t happen elsewhere

Proper player

Worrying the amount of people who have admitted to leaving early yesterday

Considering the amount of late goals we've scored this season, it's fucking bonkers

Nam ploy is too busy, went to las iguanas yesterday and much more relaxed after the game you just need to decompress chill and enjoy talking with your mates.

All fair points but people have to leave for different reasons and in my case over the years it’s been  travelling from home in London, Liverpool. Carlisle, Lincoln and now Barnsley. My old man before he passed was frail so I couldn’t take him for a pint after but at least those people turn up even if they do have to leave early and it’s the ones who don’t even bother to turn up at all but could you should be complaining about.

Point taken, not complaining about folk leaving early it’s each to their own… I get it there are valid reasons, when we are shit I don’t tend to go for a beer but rarely leave before the game is over.

Brilliant win in the end not been so buzzing at the final whistle for a while.

Dont know about anyone else but I’ve also not been so animated at the end against an opposition ever. Their shithousery was off the scale and I am so glad they got nothing.

As Wycombe we’re leaving the pitch I think I used every expletive I knew with Vs flicked for minutes 😂😂

Same here. If there was any footage of me at the end I would probably be mightily embarrassed of myself. Proper school kid type stuff. what football can do to you eh. 😂

Still grinning from ear to ear this morning. With a well earned hangover. Love wanderers me.

One thing I don’t think has been mentioned yet.

Burstow - specifically his heading.

That was a great header yesterday and adds to the one against Blackpool (which was arguably better).

3 goals in the last 4 games, over a combined 70 minutes! He’s definitely a confidence player and looks like he’s found his confidence again - forget his goals, his overall play looks really good too. He must be pushing for a start too (although I do really like the look of Kenny).

He was great when he came on, real football brain when he’s on it. Dropping deep , finding space, linking up with team mates, and crucially yesterday has an end product.

Still not the best angle.

I’ve just tried to screen shot from the highlights.

It looks over in real time on the highlights and from that shot.

But I’d love to see one from the side where I saw it from as that would be the most reliable angle to show it was definitely over.

I thought it was in but have not an angle that proves it was .

My little pre match is now usually one in the Bank Top Tavern in Horwich, superb ales and good atmosphere, unless there's a really good 12.30 game on, in which case The Crown. Sometimes nip in there for one on way back from games.

I liked his balance and how he moved with the ball and took his goal nicely

The last over of a 20/20 cricket match?

Pleased it wasn’t given as I had 3-2.

Every game this season I’ve backed us to win (or at least double chance) when we’ve gone behind. Didn’t do it yesterday 🤦🏻‍♂️

First time I’ve been in Nam Ploy yesterday and absolutely won’t do it any other way for the rare matches we have a drink at home games. Big range of drinks, rafts of staff and proper glasses. Food was great, too.

As for the match, the best 3 minutes we’ve played in ages followed by the worst 85 minutes in a long time. Wycombe were doing a great job of managing the game (ie being cheating bastards) for so long but their heads collapsed as soon as we got one back. At 2-2 you could just tell we were going to get another.

Don’t blame folk for going because it looked so utterly hopeless even on 85 minutes, but glad I stuck it out!

Get a seat in the middle of a row then. You'll be able to sit on your arse for the full 90 mins.

Sounds good to me maybe someone will swap thier seat as it would be easier for them to go to the bar/loo before half time  and I can sit down for the full 90+ mins

Genuinely, no disrespect to stats, but irrelevant, I know what I saw.  They passed us to death for most of the game.  I did notice Morley hit a couple of 30 yarders too far first half, they weren't faultless, but compared to every other team we've seen here, they were very very good.

You like your stats, especially when goals don't include penalties! :)

Any way, it does show that their passing was very effective in our defensive third.

Much less so further back.

Helps explain how, once we started pushing them back and got on top, that we maintained it, and forced them to crack.

Stats do only have a level of use, but analysis can be useful nevertheless. The management and recruitment system uses them a lot.

I'm convinced Conway will end up as a left or central midfielder. Hopefully with us.

Totally agree.

You might get some stick for it though :)

I go in the Ale House (Bank Top) after the match, it’s a bit of a trek (25 mins) but well worth it. Fine beer and proper pub atmosphere! Don’t like hanging around Middlebrook after the match, it just doesn’t feel right..
