A bit much As I posted, I don't particularly think we'll be overawed by the crowdย (although I don't think it's that unrealistic a possibility) My point was that there's higher stakes at play, and therefore more potential for emotion and pressure to play a part, in a semi-final than an end of season fixture where, as you point out, we could ultimately have lost and still qualifiedย But you're pretending not to understand that so it's best left Quote

Eddie Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Main thing for me was keeping Luton and Plymouth out of the play offs - fair play to Stevenage for doing that. Shit that we lost, shit that weโre playing away 2nd leg, but I have no fear against any of the teams in the play offs. We just need to get past Bradford and then weโll do either Stevenage or Stockport in the final, with double the amount of fans there regardless of which one it is. Quote

perth_white Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I don't think we're going to win the playoffs, I doubt we'll make the final. This team (even before Schumacher) has shown that they can get to within touching distance but can't finish the job. Games in hand to overtake Derby, fucked it; Got ourselves in a good position last season to get in the playoffs, capitulated; Got Lincoln in our sights, couldn't capitalise; Suspected Cardiff would stumble, they did so we responded by being equally as poor results wise. We're going into the playoffs in poor form having still not addressed the problems that have plagued is all season, we convert far too few chances and our opponents manage to score with a ridiculous percentage of chances. I hope I'm wrong. The only thing that makes me doubt is I bet all the other clubs that are involved fans are saying the same, to the least shit from now go the spoils. Quote

Always is. You just know you are going to hear from those who only post when thereโs something to moan about!ย I do, however, concur with the view that there is real justification for being concerned and pissed off with yesterdayโs result, mistakes and outcome. What we saw yesterday is symptomatic of our season and could be our undoing costing us promotion. Equally though, even in a game we lost, you see enough quality in this side to turn anyone over - we could just as easily see this from our inconsistent bunch. Still all to play for with a Wembley play-off victory still very much in our sights.ย Quote

Season started at Stockport where we were as good as them but lost and ended v Luton where we were the better team and lost. I posted last week โanother game where the best team drewโ so many examples in the 18 draws this season.ย It has been the same story week in week out, yesterday typified our season , 24 shots to their 12, we had 12 on target they had 5, but scored 3 and had a penalty saved.ย ย We go again next week and hopefully we can find that clinical ability to turn good chances into goals. It has to click soon.ย Quote

Tombwfc Posted May 3 Posted May 3 We've won two of our last 10 games and finished 5th. We've absolutely got a chance of winning the playoffs, all four teams finished within two points after 46 games. There's nowt in it. But it's the attitudes of 'everyone's scared of us, best squad in the league, should've won all 46 games if it wasn't for this that or the other, if we vaguely bother to turn up we'll batter everyone' that seem totally detached from reality to me. I've never seen a team given more credit for not winning games than this one. Quote
Bertie Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) Just looked at whoโs coming up from League 2. So far itโs Bromley, MK & Cambridge. Dear god. We really have got to get out of this league this month otherwise thatโs 3 more awful away games in the middle of nowhere and 3 more awful home games with zero away fans and atmosphere. Forget Leicester & Sheff Wed coming down. Really crave for championship footy after the last decade, when every game will be something to look forward to.ย Edited May 3 by Bertie Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Missing out on the home second leg is only a slight disappointment. Still think we can do this and if we can get a bit tighter at the back we will walk it. sooner have Bradford in the semi to prevent them taking 40000 to Wembleyย Quote

I've never seen a team given more credit for not winning games than this one. Of the 4 teams in the playoffs we arguably have the most skilful squad but we also have the least physical squad overall so I can understand the hype, but the only way skill overcomes physicality is by producing it frequently and consistently which we donโt enough. We have to play at our high tempo best and take our chances to progress. It wonโt happen, but Iโd like to see us start the away playoff game with just one of Sheehan, Rodrigues or Simons in the middle plus Dempsey and Erhahon, Dalby up top, CBT on the left wing and a solid back line. Wondering if the young martial arts lad we signed could do a job at full back in a four? - not that heโs likely to get a chance -and/or Inwood if fit (again no chance) despite Conway getting targeted for his positional negligence. We seem better when we bring on the fancy dans after an hour.ย Whatever Schumacher decides, Iโm sure we have the makings of a top team somewhere in there. But itโs a lottery now. Quote
barrycowdrill Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Personally think getting past Bradford will be the tougher of the 2 assignments, whoever ends up in the finalย Quote

Marc505 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Bromley is similar sort of trip as Palace, isn't it? Assumed it was a Gillingham type schlep until I looked at a map. And Cambridge is an excellent drink tbf. There are some great days out in L1! Quote

Also plenty games we should have lost or drawn, and came back to win or draw.ย Huddersfield, Stockport, Rotherham and Wycombe recently where we absolutely lose on another day but got 6 points. When that happens, we hear complimentary comments of "this team doesn't know when its beaten", "we weren't at our best but found a way to get a result".ย Sometimes it works for the opposition too. It works both ways, and overall this team hasn't deserved to finish higher than 5th or get more than 75 points (that would get you 9th place in L2). Quote
