Traf Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I'll go for radiohead and the smiths http://media.putfile.com/23_Unlovable_-_Lo...bs_-_The_Smiths Heathen! The Smiths were more misunderstood than suicidal. One of the greatest bands ever. End of. FACT.
Guest The Special One Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Aye, Radiohead, Coldplay, Joy Division =; Wow!!! wow or whoa?
jules_darby Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 The Smiths and Morrissey are supported by 30-40 something odd-balls - normally sad, single and disaffected, or certainly were in the Smiths heyday. FACT. A Morrissey gig has more in common with that cult at Waco than anything else...grown men throwing flowers and swooning at the bloke. Some good tunes from group and individual but in my opinion very, very odd indeed. Sorry Traf
exiledwhite2 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Smiths were a great band, Johnny Marr a legend Nowt wrong with a bit of intelligence in the lyrics is there? Does that HAVE to be regarded as 'odd'?

Sorry Traf so the fact they were odd and supported by some non typical music fans but make good songs, differs from Trafs opnion in what way ?? Traf was rightly commentingon how good the band were, Morriseys last album for me had one decent track irish whatever english whatever and one classic 'first of the gang to die' i thought the rest was shit. The smiths music is nt something i listen to that often but ever time i do i think they were a lot better than most people gave them credit for. Opening myself up for some 'well you fit the profile' gags here !
frank_spencer Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Type-O-Negative & large swaithes of the naval gazing indie shite thats clogging up the airwaves alongside all that black man music about ho's pimps and bling!
jules_darby Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Smiths were a great band, Johnny Marr a legend Nowt wrong with a bit of intelligence in the lyrics is there? Does that HAVE to be regarded as 'odd'? Get your knickers out of a twist, where did I say any of that is odd?? It's the whole worship / phenomenon thing that I find cultish among a certain cross-section of UK society not known for that sort of behaviour traditionally for musical heroes... And they're very defensive too
Traf Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 That's right. I'm a defensive 37 year old, flower-chucking, hearing-aid wearing, sad, lonely, disaffected manic depressive. I blame El-Hadji Diouf.
exiledwhite2 Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Haha, I'm too young to be one of those devotees and they I'm not a massive fan by any stretch But saying the Smiths is suicide music or that they are odd is a quite annoying statement usually made by people who've never listened to em. It's like saying Bolton only play long ball and are dirty, physical foreign mercenaries, it's just lazy journalism that has become received wisdom... I blame Neil Bonnar

Whites man Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Smiths records should come with a health warning, they turn outgoing, cheery teenagers into shoe gazing miserablists, FACT, ITK.

"And if a double decker bus, crashes into us, To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die" GENIUS!!! Tony green? From Bullseye? I'm sure The Mozzer could relate to one of Tony's catchphrases -"you get nothing in this game for 2 in a bed" I'll agree he is a marketing genius - been around the music scene long before The Smiths. Manipulated his fans, the press with snippets of info or questionable lyrics (sexuality/racism) to ensure he gets on the cover of the NME. Having said that "The Queen is Dead" is a shoe in for one of my top 5 albums. "I know its over" would be my No.1 suicide song
Breightmet Boy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 REO Speedwagon, The Smiths, Coldplay, Mister Mister, Fat Larry's Band and The Undertones
