when it was crap and no atmosphere in the 80s all the lads who wanted the atmosphere and crack moved to the lever end to create an atmosphere, we were still a poor team but the 3 thousand or so in the lever end created an atmosphere that got the players going and we began to claw our way back up the leagues from that initial spark, it may be the time now for a similar move into the south stand where seats are always available you can sit with your mates get a song going and the bonus is your right in amongst the away fans so you can have a bit of friendly banter.

Spot on Mounts.

Given the choice, would people off here, who have lots in common, be prepared to move and sit in the South Stand Lower?

To be effective it would need to be organised by likes of me or another elected body to negotiate with the club.

I'm sure we could get 200 + who 'want' to sit together.

Could we self police the area?

We need a voice at the club, could this be the start of things?

there is no way an area like that, in that location, is going to be encouraged by the boys in blue

it wasn't a coincidence the away fans were moved

I am all for a singing area. As the place is soulless, would it not be possible to get a petition going on here, and the other sites, and give the results to Big Sam, as he wants the Reebok to be a intimidating place for teams to fear,! It???s just my suggestion worth a try. What you say Happy.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to read this subject 8-[ .

Me and our kid have been feeling the same. In some wierd way I have not enjoyed this season at all :? . Before I get crucified, don't get me wrong the trips I went on (Portugal & Marseille) were great, just like the old days, times I will NEVER forget. The trouble is the actual matches themselves almost threatened to ruin the trips!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly thought we were shite in both the games that I went to.

I never thought I would live to see BWFC in the position we are currently in and I feel almost ungrateful that I am not entirely happy, so whats up with me :-s ???? I think I need to see a shrink.

Having thought long and hard about it, I am beginning to despise the way we play :-$ . I have decided that I want entertaining. I am also pissed off with our shite support and lack of atmosphere.

I honestly enjoyed it more when we were in a relegation battle :-$ .

That game against Boro at home on the last day of the season when we had to win (and Ricketts scored for them) was pure entertainment.

The club should be encouraging a "Home End", look at all the other, albeit older grounds with their atmosphere, Portsmouth always stands out.

football is saturated in modern day living

all but one of our games till the end of the season is on tv, and you will probably be able to see Charlton at home somewhere other than the Reebok

you could probably watch 90% of Bolton's games in a season on TV

we spend half of our working day on here reading about footy

it's not sacred anymore

it used to be about saturday afternoons from 11am till you dropped

it's 24/7 these days

too much of it, it get's boring

the UEFA cup has stirred things up a bit this season because it's new to us, and a fookin good crack

Bolton over the years has been exciting - since Rioch took over in 92/93 not one season has not had it's fair share of "excitement" be it promotion, relegation or a cup run

I'd hate to think what will happen to us if we ever became a stable premiership team neither fearing relegation or really going for europe every season, because that looks like it could be what we'll become - and from what I read on here it doesn't bode well regarding attendances etc

Oh and while they are at it re-name said stand to something else "Horwich End" or something similar.

Posted

Oh and while were at it, if we want one or two more bums on seats

Make the season ticket installment plan 0% instead of 16.9% APR

Robbing tw??ts

You can buy a sofa, a car a tv on 0% why not a f??ckin season ticket?

Why should someone who works hard with a lower income get priced out?

Agree the 24/7 is a problem

I don't watch Sky Sports News anymore because its boring

Clubs are concerned, thats the main reason our Season Tickets aren't increasing. Our average attendance is down due to prices, Sky and Sunday kick offs. Its not because they want to "demonstrate to supporters that we acknowledge and appreciate the tremendous loyalty shown over many years". If we sold out each week it would be going up 20%

I can see a silver lining. Sky's viewing figures for football are shite, latest released are 1.65 million (Fulham/Chelsea) and 0.85million (Man City/Villa).

When Sky fcuk off, we may be able to reclaim the game

Some excellent points made so far and I'll probably end up Bextoring many of them but what the hell.

One of the key things that comes from what people have said above, and I totally agree with, is people feel a bit daft complaining now since even if we do fall away a bit now we'll a top half Pemiership team and for so many years we could only dream of that. The touble is that the simple fact that a match is taking place in the Premiership does not automatically make it a good or enjoyable one. This was the point I made after Brum - we were an uninspired team playing against poor opposition. as such that was no more enjoyable that in if it had taken place in a lower division. Plus of course we paid top doallr to see it - even though I'm reasonably close to there it was a tenner in petrol and a fiver to park and 30 to get in. 45 quid is 45 quid!

As I pointed out a while back, even converting through to todays money the fact is that in the last season at Burnden a ST holder in the Paddock effectively paid ??3.60 per home goal; last year I paid ??18. Now as it happens the fact we made Europe made that worthwhile - but we only made Europe because we got lucky and 6th place got it thanks to the way the Cups went. Which leads to a an important conclusion and a really vital consideration for the future of the club:

we will never be able to guarantee European football and thus have to face a foreseeable future that consists of mid-table safety/banality. From this it follows that the club have to work out how to address this.

As far as the atmosphere in the ground goes , well in all honesty the bit of the ESL I sit in (edge of the block that stands the most) allows me to do pretty much what I want. Ok we get mithered by stewards, but that turns into a running joke a lot of the time and little or nowt comes of it. I can swear as much as I want, and the standing is actually pretty much regulated by the crowd itself. Like minded souls have gravitated there anyhow, and that includes all age groups and gender eg the old lass a few rows behind was the first to get the gist of me

"they've got Joey Joey Joey Joey's brother

On D-wing, on D-wing"

chant against City.

people say that the make up the crowd has changed - I honestly doubt that. I would bet you that if we could examine a breakdown of the crowd in say the Wolves playoff and compare it to now there'd be bugger all difference. The problem is that like-minded people cannot easily congregate - a few years back we fucked up a London Whites block booking for a Cup game and ended up diagonally opposite where we normally are, in the WSL. fcuk me it was a morgue - we were actually asking each other, are we allowed to swear?? But if people are judging the Reebok on that kind of experience then dont because the south bit of the ESL shows it doesnt have to be like that. Oh and dont forget that if we had redeveloped Burnden then we'd still have this problem as it too would be all seated.

The bottom line I'm afraid though is that we've reached our goal of becoming an established Premiership club only the find that the Premiership is poor quality, overhyped, massively overpriced and at the beck and call of tv who piss about with kick off times.

Fcking hell lads, it's four defeats that's brought this on.

Remember, "the future's bright, the futures white"? It still is. Still bright, still white, just a bit quieter that's all.

A win against Chelsea at weekend and it'll all be ok.

Rubbish, this has been brewing for a long time. It's nothing to do with defeats, even thought it does get you down, there is much more to it thatn that.

They are all good points Satan. For me the buzz has gone because football as a whole is not the same game now that I grew up with. There is too much negativity, too much concern in keeping clean sheets. Very little open play and too little goal mouth action. It is now possible for a goalkeeper to go through a game without having to make a save. The penalty area at every corner is more like a wrestling contest than a football match. The defenders don't watch the ball but instead keep hold of the player they are supposed to be marking and their only interest is in obstructing him from going for the ball. There is too much cheating and play acting trying to get opposing players sent off.

At one time at the start of the season, well over half the teams in the division were capable of winning the league championship. Nowadays it is three at the most. The rewards for winning are now so great and has led to all the above happening. Is it right that Chelsea can buy any player they want just because they have a bottomless purse and then after buying said player never play him. And where is the ambition of the said player when he is happy to get paid but not play.

=D> =D> In theory this is a brilliant idea.

It worked back then in the Lever End.

but I'm so pessimistic about the modern day game that I fear that the police cameras/stewards etc. etc. would spoil it. You are one of the old school passionate fans and you are not wanted anymore.

MOVE OVER singing, shouting standing fan......... WELCOME IN werthers, sit down, lets clap 'cos we've just scored brigade

theirs 5 of us go all season ticket holders in the north lower (grave yard end) but we are spilt up in to 2 in one row 2 in another and 1 somewhere else so we swap our seats for 5 tickets in the south lower every game and there is a better atmosphere but the orange gary nevilles are doing there best to ruining it

It has got nowt to do with the last four results.

The fact of the matter is as far as entertaining football goes I personally can count on one hand how many games I have 'enjoyed' this season.

I am glad I am getting this off my chest and I don't mind admitting that there have been times this season even when we have won say 1-0 and I come out of the Reebok feeling like we have lost???

What the fook is all that about???

The buzz isn't the same for me as it was in the 80's then again i am 20 years older (as are all of you who remember the second and third division days)

I am sure if we were in a Bristol City type of position just now you would give your left knacker to be where we are.

For Gods sake enjoy it

no, its just a bit of honesty. I mean I'm still making the 220 mile round trip and will renew me ST - but it doesnt mean all is right by a long shot. Now what is "wrong" may well not be exclusive to Bolton, I don't know....

The club can do no more. We have as much success as we can expect given the relative financial power of the club, the owner, chairman and manager are BWFC through and through, we have a fine stadium and respect amongst the football world. Ask yourself - why are other teams so bothered about our style of play? If its that bad then they should be happy as it should only strengthen their position. But no, they blab on about at every opportunity, because they know that in this competitive industry, they can't rely on their multi million pound, highly paid players to beat little BWFC, they need an edge over us, and so resort to insults in the press. There is some truth in it, we can be a hoof and hope team, but more often than not, particularly at home our style is as attractive as anyone else. Unfortunately some of our own fans on this site are falling for the hype.

As for the 'buzz' it is purely in the hands of ourselves. The club cannot supply a buzz or buy a buzz, its up to us to create one. Coming on here moaning, or not renewing season tickets, or threatening not to renew does no one any good. Positive action is what is required. Ideas:

1. Form Bolton Ultras, tell the club, ask for a part of the ground to be the Ultras home.

2. Ask the club to open one the banqueting suites to the fans before a game. I know for a fact the club would consider this.

3. How about some ideas about songs. Our range of chants are severely limited. Arrange to meet up somewhere and have a good old BWFC sing song over a few beers.

Any bigger and better ideas?

All it needs is someone to co-ordinate, and a bit of enthusiasm. Rocket Science it aint.

Football has evolved, society in general has evolved, and so the nature of the BWFC buzz and all who sail in it must also evolve.

"The club can do no more. "??? On the contrary, it's up to the club to think the future through. Like I say, if our role is now to be established mid-table Premiership team then it is up to the club to address the issue of how to keep the fans interest going - be it through how the ground is managed, how they prioritize their efforts in the Cup games etc. Again, it is not enough simply to say that games are "Premiership" therefore that alone will bring the punters in.

To say that fans on this site are falling for the hype is, to be honest, a bit of an insult. I've been going 29 years despite being out of Bolton for 25 of them, and had a ST for the last 11 years despite being not far off Bristol-type distance from the place. I've seen them at Old Trafford and Orient; Bournemouth and Besiktas; Yeovil, and ....well...Ok fcuk it, I've not seen them at York so that alliterative cascade falters there :D But the point is I can still see exactly where people are coming from on this - and certainly pay no heed to any criticism in the press or otherwise. fcuk them; but the fact is summat's not right and its got nowt to do with anything the papers or anyone else says.

yes, but without club efforts we can do nowt - to say its "purely in the hands of ourselves" is thus nonesense as is slagging people off for moaning. The more come on here to whinge the more chance there will be of realising there is a problem and taking action.
