I will never tire of watching that West Ham goal. I particularly like the way that Jay Jay leaves a sprawling Joe Cole in a heap in the centre circle.

As for that performance at Spurs - absolute class. Mates of mine who are Spuds even admit that they struggle to think of a better individual performance at the Lane.

At his peak I think he was as good as anyone in the world ... and that shows how far we've come.

FFS, Okocha was a show-pony.

In over 100 games he only played like a legend once, away at Spurs in a 1-0 victory. That was the only time he ever dominated a match like a ???world class??? player should.

In truth, he was out of his depth in the majority of games, particularly this past 18 months where he had become a liability. Even Allardyce realised this (a season too late) and made him sub for many games.

To mention him in the same breath as Hierro or Youri is plain ridiculous.

JayJay's one man war with the woodwork lasted most of his wanderers career! no doubt if goals were an inch bigger in each direction he'd have scored a shed load!

Get real, the people sitting at the back of the North/South stand are the ones who had to worry most.

Heirro had a terrible start to the first half of the season.

Youri had his moments.

that aside they were both great signings

JJ is a wanderers legend

:-$

now run along before you tell me Nat Lofthouse should be erased from our clubs history because he was only a physical player with no skill.

So you???d describe Okocha as a consistently high level performer? I presume then you were outraged when Fat Sam left him out of the team?

natasha, youve just proved to me you have a very poor knowledge of the beautiful game...

consistant - probably not

genius - without doubt

stick to knitting love...

Stop the insults and tell me why Okocha is a legend.

From where I sat he was an average performer who didn???t come anywhere near justifying his huge wages.

ok then fatty...

great players always have time on the ball

great players see a pass nobody else did (even the crowd)

great players great players are always in the right place

great players work hard for the team

great players are unselfish in their play

and most of all great players are respected amongst fellow players, when okocha got the ball, he was ALWAYS closed down immediatly by 2 or more players, you ask any manager who is the player you need to stop playing? answer? Jay-Jay Okocha...

If it weren't for his consistantly 'poor performances' we would have been relegated and wet spam would have stayed up if you recall ?

I agreed when he was on the bench last season when he was under performing. However he was part of the revolution when it mattered and should be remembered for his contributions then. I doubt your beloved Borg would have signed if we hadn't stayed up that season ?

I think the aim of this thread was to remember all the good stuff the great man did for the club - not to pick holes in any poor performances he had.

So:

1. He put a smile on everyones faces - a point which Natasha has flogged to death (entertainment over results) for a while.

2. He raised the profile of the club, we attracted other world class players simply because he was there.

3. He made some world class defenders look very average indeed at times, even if he did hit the bar straight after. Who gives? Give me a guy who takes players on anyday.

It was time to go, but he'll be tough to replace.

So to cut a long story short you think he is great because he made the papers and continually missed the target?

Fair enough, but it would have been far cheaper to sign Pete Dochety who could have done the same job for a fraction of the price.
