Stop the insults and tell me why Okocha is a legend.

From where I sat he was an average performer who didn???t come anywhere near justifying his huge wages.

What a first class prick you truly are. Without Jay Jay there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that we'd have been relegated in his first season.

Both him and Djorkaeff pinched in with nine goals each, most of those proving how class they were, as we had never seen such dazzling finishes before in over 125 years.

Okocha made many assists every season, and scored crucial goals. He was also a MAJOR part in us reaching the Carling Cup final. Granted we lost in the end, but it was another amazing achievement for such a small club.

There is no way you are a Bolton fan.

As well as being a player of true talent, a crowd pleaser, a guy who kept the club up single handedly (as mentioned earlier), also remember that he was a great ambassador for the club, and even when his time was up, said only positive things about the club and Bolton the place in the press.

Therefore IMO a true BWFC legend.

Firstly, Okocha spent a good percentage of his first season on the bench or in the Reserves. Granted, he played ok towards the end of the season which in some part helped us stay up ??? and while I admit his goal against West Ham was special, you can???t judge a whole season on one goal which is what you are doing. The main reason we stayed up was Youri.

And while I don???t doubt Okocha weighed in with some assists, he also got caught in possession more times than I thought humanly possible and had a habit of hitting row Z with any attempted shot on goal. And these crucial goals you speak of are a myth, for an attacking midfielder his goals ratio was appalling.

Take a step back for a minute and judge the player on his performances and not how many times he appeared on tv. Give me a Bruno, or a Kevin Davies any day of the week, it???s consistent players like these that have made us a top 10 Premiership team, not showboating by some bloke doing keepie-ups.

Seriously, some of you have very bad memories.

Is this the same ambassador that blatantly sold himself to the world in a BBC interview with Garth Crookes? He was virtually begging the big clubs to sign him up.

Funny that, Alan Stubbs did a similar thing and he was public enemy number 1 :-k

That's funny, I don't remember him saying "watch this space".

As for the man being a legend or not...he's done things on that pitch that I wouldn't have seen if I wasn't there; stuff you cant see on the park...not many have done that for Bolton. For me he's a legend; no question. But, we got rid at the right time.

the 'myth' missus is that he was often caught in possesion and that is passes went astray.

i think you'll find the stats prove otherwise...

and that last statement shows your complete and utter ignorance to okocha as a *complete footballer!

*tackling was more than a little suspect

Can't argue with that :D

If you check the official site for the results etc for the West Ham season you will see that JJ scored 4 goals and had a number of assists in the last 9 games of that season. Also if you check you will see that we won a number of games by the odd goal or drew matches so its fair to say that without that contribution from JJ we would have been relegated. Being relegated would have cost us ??15m to ??20m per season . JJ at ??30K per week assuming he has done nothing since (which isnt true) cost us ??4.7 million in wages for the last 3 seasons.

JJ was a massive player for Bolton and has been a major contributor to where we are now .

In mathematical terms, where x=excitement:

jj+y=x

jj-y=x/2

bw-(jj+y)=zzzzzzz

Sorry, I'm bored.

And I can't argue with that.

So what about the other 29 games where he didn???t perform? Or shall we just forget those?

Sorry which bit of the message didnt you understand ? In those 9 games alone he saved us ??15m to ??20mand has since cost us ??4.5m which would seem to leave Bolton well in credit on the JJ deal to me.

For the record the first half of that season he was injured so didnt appear much until after Xmas so he didnt actually play anything like 29 other games. Are you sure you actually go to the matches ?

Just for the record he was dropped, Allardyce suggesting he was stuggling to come to terms with the pace of the Premiership (as all world class players do, obviously).

So he performed well (you say) for 9 games, big effing deal. He was signed to play a whole season. If his wages had been spent on a more consistent player who could play 38 games we wouldn???t have been in the relegation battle in the first place.

It???s like setting fire to your next door neighbour and then taking the praise when you rescue him.

Thanks STF, that's what I was getting at earlier, about the cost of relegation etc and JJ proving to be value for money.

If he did nothing else, Okocha helped to raise the global profile of Bolton Wanderers. Without him, you don't get the Campo's, Speed's, Ben Haim's, Jaidi's, Diouf's, Borgetti's, Nakata's etc of this world. Whether our multinational signings are any good is a different subject, but without the profile being raised, you don't attract that type of player who might not have heard of Bolton.
