Bobcat Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 a shit load of cash in wages ... on a short term loan till the end of the season... surely there are foreigners out there who want to play in the Euro's and want to put themselves on show? but i aint panicking...I'm sure we have something decent lined up.
jules_darby Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 It would have to be done very carefully. As others have said though, what would a top striker have done on Saturday at newcastle - what's just as important is playing in a way that we create chances and potentially getting a playmaker in
Casino Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 right, for once age is irrelevant we need something for 4 months

Aye, Bayerns Lucas Podolski as discussed here - http://www.wanderersways.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43300 Don't think it'll happen somehow
MickyD Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 How about payment for results? Score a goal, get a grand. Score a winning goal, get ten grand. That'd sort the men from the boys!
jolly-olly Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 How about payment for results? Score a goal, get a grand. Score a winning goal, get ten grand. That'd sort the men from the boys! Performance related pay. Sounds good to me.
Mounts Kipper Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 short term loan for top notch player is the order of the day, pay him good money massive bonus for winning goals and massive bonus if we stay up if it costs 5 million and we stayed up it would be cheap, just shows why the fook did we part with Anelka so cheaply.
Traf Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 How about payment for results? Score a goal, get a grand. Score a winning goal, get ten grand. That'd sort the men from the boys! They'd want more than that, when decent strikers earn over ?50k a week.

Zico Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 agree as with on the other thread, Podolski is in such a position main problem though is top notch strikers are generally playing regular enough not to need a move

Still need that centre-back, creative midfielder & striker. 8 days and counting.
Mounts Kipper Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 ..... so (relatively) cheaply and at entirely the wrong time.Still need that centre-back, creative midfielder & striker. 8 days and counting. If we sign a top striker we will stay up without buying a centre half or a creative midfielder, I think this situation now shows how wrong the board were to accept the bid for Anelka, we can now be held to ransom, and I can see us having to pay 10 million for a player who is half the player Anelka was.
jules_darby Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 If we sign a top striker we will stay up without buying a centre half or a creative midfielder Nah, we were near the bottom with Anelka and without a decent centre half & creative midfielder so how would simply getting a replacement up front change anything alone. Taylor and Steinesson are decent steps but we need more...the best striker in the world wouldn't have scored with the service offered to them versus Derby at home and Newcastle away.

The reason we are near the bottom is Sammy lee (10 games 7 points relegation form 0.7 pts per game), since then the team have collected (14 points from 13 games 1.07 pts per game which should give us safety) add this 2 decent signings and a possible new striker we should have just enough to stay up. p.s.we did score against derby and anyone other than JLS would have scored against toon.

I know we scored against Derby but it wasn't by our striker rendering us having one still having zero chances. As for the JLS chance at newcastle, again it wasn't a striker with the chance so again it's irrelevant. Anyway let's say they had fallen to strikers, creating one chance per game will not keep us up as our defence will not keep clean sheets every week. I'm not saying we need a whole host of new faces, but unless we improve the way we play as a whole team, we could have Pele in his pomp and we still wouldn't be winning games
Horwich Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The reason we are near the bottom is because the players are wank
Zulu Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The reason we are near the bottom is because the players are wank You've lost me now, what with all that coach-speak psycho-babble!
YATESY Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Sunderland and Fulham are both set to seal deals for new forwards today. Sunderland are signing Rade Prica from AaB Aalborg for ?2M. He was top scorer in the Danish League in 2006-07. Fulham have signed Eddie Johnson from Kansas City Wizards for ?2.5M, to add to the other 3 signings made in January. I know nowt about these two lads and they may well be crap but with 7 days to go our relegation rivals are getting players in to fill the areas of their squads that we are desperate for.

cbwfcd Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I know nowt about these two lads and they may well be crap That's the main point, we don't need more crap at those prices. We have enough of that already. It is worrying but we will have to make the best of what we've got and get behind the team. (Especially Nolan as he is going to have to start banging them in, so stop slagging him off -- to nolan bashers)
YATESY Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I predict a repeat of a few years ago when 3 stumps were signed at 23.58 on deadline day without FSA having even seen them play.
