Chris T. Church Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Really is poor this, just wondering if it's an attempt to undermine away support even before the game starts rather than being PC, along with stopping beer (was there any on Sat? Weren't any at Villa or Liverpool), nailing you to your seats or putting away fans in some far corner of the ground. Disgrace either way, if you can't fly a flag at a footy match where can you? I'm just happy we live in such an enlightened part of the country, where the club actually offers to put the flag up in a prominent location (although there weren't any up last home game, anyone know why?). I've had friends (away fans) who have said the North Stand looks really good with all the flags, however were disappointed that they were all England flags (as if it detracts away from the BWFC written across it in size 200 font), why is it that some teams have a real dislike for the patriotic (Scum and the Scouse in particular)?
Smiffs Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Fans of big premiership clubs dont generally care about the international scene. They get plenty chance themselves to go into Europe with their clubs, internationals take their best players and risk injury etc. Plus most of them are f?cking Irish anyway. You will very rarely find a decent turn out from the top clubs at England away. Only Chelsea buck that trend but that was way before they were any good and were no bigger than say Sheff Wed. Arse, Utd, Liverpool....I dont think I've ever seen them away with England. Utd taking 200 to Anfield for the FInland game doesnt count.
Carlos Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 On the subject of flags, qudos to whoever was hanging a big BWFC Northern Soul from the top of a block of yuppy flats overlooking the Emirates.
The True Marple White Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 The reason! Just had an email from the club to say this has been passed to higher authority for action!
Sweep Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Official attendance was 60 thou but there must have been 3 thou empty seats in corporate middle tier Shit atmosphere with plastic fans. Reebok is 10 times better are you sure?
LHBWFC Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 This is f*cking bad!! We cant even put our own flag up in our own country!!
Sweep Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) Isn't it "illegal" to fly a St Georges flag anyway, unless it's on a vertical pole............. Edit: Found the story St. George and again Edited January 12, 2009 by CWP

peebles Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 What a genius Mr Edelman must be. One dispute amongst a tiny proportion of the Arsenal support and ban all National Flags, including our own? Shameful.
no balls Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Isn't it "illegal" to fly a St Georges flag anyway, unless it's on a vertical pole............. Edit: Found the story St. George and again This amused me for some reason: "The council has never told me what it is I am advertising and clearly I would like to know what that is."
Sweep Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 This is pathetic!! I agree, but not totally surprising, and I'm suprised that Arsenal haven't used that as the excuse
frank_spencer Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 What a genius Mr Edelman must be. One dispute amongst a tiny proportion of the Arsenal support and ban all National Flags, including our own? Shameful. although if they banned one nations flag then they'd have to ban them all otherwise complaints and no doubt legal action by no win no fee type leeches would ensue the sensible thing would be to ask the bod witht he turkish cypriot flag to take it down as it was causing offense and for siad bloke with flag to agree and take it down. the cross of St george and The union Flag should be allowed wherever within reason. obviously hanging a 6ft flag on a thin pole isn't sensible but the woman in the article shouldn't be stopped from flying the flag. There's a bloke on Bury/bolton road just after the 40mph section on the Bury end who often has a smiley face flag or the skull and crossbones flying from a proper flag pole
Zico Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 There's a bloke on Bury/bolton road just after the 40mph section on the Bury end who often has a flag with smiley's face on it or the skull and crossbones flying from a proper flag pole I'd like to think that's because it's a gay bar called the Pirate Of Men's Pants but I suspect it's not

tylswhite Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Arsenal may as well be a foreign club imo, set of ragging pussys
Sweep Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Arsenal may as well be a foreign club imo, set of ragging pussys indeed, and the irnony being they are the only club in the top 5 that is still under British ownership (for now)
Smiley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 A flag showing "Smileys" face? - wouldn't that make you crash your car? hot chicks maybe. blokes, no. how about banning all non-UK (Scottish, English, Welsh) flags.
snackum Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Found this digging. It all started just over 2 years ago. Dec 13 2006, 06:03 PM OFFICIAL STATMENT FROM ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB Thank you for your comments regarding the flying of the Northern Cyprus flag. This has been further discussed at length within the Club and in order to treat all of our fans in the same way we have issued the following statement. It is hoped in this way everyone can continue to support the Club without any unrest. ?Some of our fans have been upset with the flying of certain flags denoting particular regions of the world. Arsenal as a club prides itself on being inclusive with respect to all nationalities, cultural and ethnic groups. We have therefore decided that in order that all of our fans can enjoy their expreiences at Emirates Stadium we are asking all fans to only fly flags in support of Arsenal Football Club with no national emblems. We will be implementing this policy with immediate effect.? ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB Read the full story.... http://clubs.phantis.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=877 I really don't agree with this at all.

Ani Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) if our flag is so important and dear to people why do you find it acceptable to write all over it ? in america you can not deface the flag or you get prosecuted. do not get me wrong i think you should be able to fly the flag and i personally do not have a problem with writing on the flag but i think we cherish our national identity when it suits and disregard it at other times. Edited January 12, 2009 by Ani
The True Marple White Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) correct as can be seen in my avitar! I fly the flag at all times! If I had a flag pole in my garden I would have it up! But I know what you mean Ani! Edited January 12, 2009 by The True Marple White
Sweep Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 in america you can not deface the flag or you get prosecuted. I'm sure there is probably some ancient law going back a couple of hundred years or so that means it is illegal to "deface" either the Union Flag or the flag of St. George It does always amuse me when I see a flag of St. George with "England" written on it, what's that all about?
