First Game?

My son asked me a question today about what was the first football game i went to , well i was dragged by my brother to the game aged 9 and stood on the leverend.

Now i think the game was against plymouth but i cant find anything on the net to support my memory, i remeber my brother telling me to stand in the same place while he shot off with some lads down the paddock side to fight.

So can some one point me in the right direction , and also while i am at it i was looking at the past managers but it did not mention that Nat Lofthouse took charge for a few games in the 80s.

Was my mind altered by the Jennings in the King Bill or did he take charge.

The thread on 1974 got me thinking - my first game was in the mid 80's my old man took me against Burnley won 3-0 I think and I swear Jim McDonagh scored direct from a kick out his hands bounced once over their goalie and in - did that really happen or did i imagine it whilst day dreaming in the Great Lever End - anyone know what year it was I think it was 1986?

I hope he did the decent thing and left you with a couple of fags and a bottle of brown ale.

My first game was the Liverpool - Everton derby, probably around 1980, which finished nil - nil. I got dragged there by a school mates dad, as my dad wouldnt let me go to any matches due to the all the trouble at the time.

When my dad found out, he punished me by getting me a season ticket for the Whites for the following season.

No idea what year

Bolton v Fulham at Burnden Park

Fulham had Best, Moore and Marsh playing for them

Bobby Moore got sent off and all the Fulham team had a sulk and walked off the pitch, think it was 1-1 at the time

We scored late on, think it was 3-1 to Bolton

it was the league cup

only moore played, i think

we equalised 2-2 in the 19th minute of fergie time witha mike walsh shot from somewhere on st peters way

moore sent off - a fact always forgotten when folk talk about what a gent he was....along with the unfortunate misunderstanding when he forgetfully walked out of a mexican jewellers with half the shop in his pocket - so team followed him

extra time followed with no further goals

we won the second replay at the hawthorns

Think that was a League Cup replay. Mike Walsh scored a beauty of a goal deep into injury time, and if my memory serves me correctly when the final whistle went Bobby Moore was still complaining about the long injury time so was then sent off, then in turn the whole of the Fulham team walked off in protest. They did eventually return for the extra time but the game still finished in a 2-2 draw and we won the 2nd replay played at St Andrews 2-1.

15/10/77 beat Mansfield 2 nowt with a Franky Worthy brace. I've not missed many since.

One thing i've noticed on that site is that crowds that season were comparable to our crowds this season.

So unless we suddenly break into the top 4, let's not expect to see the ground full anytime soon, unfortuneately

The very last game of the 63/64 season. We got smashed 4-0 by the old gold b?stards.

For some unfathomable reason, me dad decided that should be me first game. Bulled it up to me how great it was; stories of fearless warriors like Nat Lofthouse; tradition; wonderful day out etc.

Stood there on the Embankment surrounded by grown men skriking and an unbelievable gloom and depression about the place due to our relegation from the top flight.

I must have a masochistic streak as I was an ever present at home the following season and he took me to a few local away games which really lit the fuse.
