Traf Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Winter Hill is living up to it's name again too. What's it doing in Burnley ? About 2-3 inches tonight so far, but rain and warmer temperatures are expected tomorrow and the Lancashire gritters are out in force once again.
Guest Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 About 2-3 inches tonight so far, but rain and warmer temperatures are expected tomorrow and the Lancashire gritters are out in force once again. Cars abandoned all the way down CNR; was it that bad?

MickyD Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Cars abandoned all the way down CNR; was it that bad? No. It means flat dicks* were driving and got scared! With apologies to our resident flat dicks. They may be quite competent drivers. Others, I can assure you aren't! MickyD's driving tip. Set off in as high a gear as you can with as little gas as you can. It'll takesome clutch work but once you're started drive as normal but look a damned sight further ahead and try to anticipate having to slow down or stop. If you can see a traffic light ahead, ease off the accellerator as you approach, expecting to need to stop. If it's still green as you approach, decide the point at which you aren't stopping anyway and give it a little bit more gas. The most important bit is looking further than normal in anticipation of having to stop. If you try to stop suddenly you'll skid. If you slow right down by lifting the accellerator, you won't.
Traf Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Burnley will be off i can tell You may well be right, as things stand.

By gas, he means press the accellerator down again slightly, not "Ignore this as my car isn't gas powered."
farnworth white Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Cars abandoned all the way down CNR; was it that bad? I think all the cars on CNR are people who who live on the estates off it, and would rather start their journeys on the main road rather than struggle to get off or back onto the estates.
