Superb find!! Obviously I’d love my Dad to be still alive (sadly at 105 it would be wishful thinking) but it’s stuff like this that rings so many bells about stuff he told me By 1945 he’d be

Without checking, didn't he score the winner at Witton Albion?

Yes. Went on a stag do a few years ago with Chris Pearce (Burnley keeper) who played with Compo. They were really big mates - told me a few stories about him. Really great lad by all accounts.

A shame about him, yes remembered for his sitter at Wrmbley but I do remember him more for the 2 v Scarborough

Can't remember the miss at Wembley, but can Deano's

Windy, both at embankment end. Thought it was Scarborough but Bournemouth also rings a bell so will bow to that

Did we play both over Xmas?

No. Scarborough was a one time only fixture in division 4. Bournemouth (new years day?)was a couple of years later.

Funny how that era all merges together for me. Early teens back then

Jeez I was at that game, can’t quite believe it was televised, thought we drew it to be honest, it was last away game the season we got relegated, remember Bolton hoolies invading the Ipswich seats before the match led by long haired wanderers fan( later found out it was Ivan) I was 16 and first overnight trip in one of my mates car, camped in tent in place called swaffham. Brought some memories back that thx SJM.

Never seen that before. Ipswich had a fantastic team back then. I could probably names all of them. Like @Mounts Kipper said, it's a odd match to choose for TV. Having said that the pool of teams Anglia TV had to choose from was very shallow.

Used to love proper ticker tape at matches........

Needs some volume.

Quite enjoyed the duel commentary .....

Absolute limbs in that away end when Caldwell's shot went in!

Great cup quarter final.

Had everything.

Seems that the pitch is massive from that angle, with lots of space, though maybe the quality of player, with good control creates the space.

How good was tricky Ricky too. Will always be one of my all time favourite players.

Shirley, that advertisement hoarding (minute 1:11) - Brothels and partners, was meant to be Brothels with sisters 🙅.

55 secs in. Bolton fans are marching round (inside the Wigan end) from the right hand goal and panic sets in the Wigan lads 😂😂

Proper good cup tie that was

Charlton brought loads as well but their standards

They generally bought fuck all in the PL

Filled the whole lower tier that day, though heard plenty were Millwall

Great day and cup tie that, I remember not seeing that goal again for about 15 years after the day it happened in that dark era of no footage. Superb strike.

And I also remember thinking it was an un-Charlton like following. Not seen similar from them before or since and we've been their opening away game of season once or twice!
