Probably Trigger, it got run over on a country road and there wasn't the kind of traffic knocking about in them days like there is now

February 27, 201214 yr Author Excellent film. The book is even better though. Whatever you may think of the US Military, it's truly harrowing to think what those soldiers/rangers/marines went through. Seeing a woman coming towards you with what appears to be a baby in a blanket. Do you open fire on them as for all you know they've got an AK47 under that blanket?? Not a nice choice to have to make. A scene in The Pacific shows this. Wasn't nice to watch, never mind make such a decision.
May 25, 201214 yr Just stumbled onto this thread, long overdue watching a good war film. I'm off to Arnhem in october to visit the bridges and Oosterbeek, so I have to nominate A Bridge Too far. This is my favourite scene with the great Edward Fox portraying General Horrocks briefing the officers, and by all accounts is as it actually happened. All the more amazing was the fact that Horrocks had undergone numerous operations after being seriously wounded in North Africa a year earlier, strafed by cannon fire from a German Fighter and shot through the chest!! He came back in great pain to lead his men, they don't make em like that anymore.
May 25, 201214 yr Agree with much of the above - Band Of Brothers was immense, like watching a small film every week. Those episodes set in the Ardennes Forest were some of the best things Ive ever seen on telly. Black Hawk Down too was top. Jarhead was okay although I much preferred the book. Might seem daft to say on the face of it but I actually really enjoyed Tears Of The Sun, far less ridiculous than I thought it would be when I saw it. Quite a few decent foreign ones as well, a Chinese one called "Assembly" was good, a bit rough though! One I never agree with though is The Hurt Locker. Every absolutely jizzed over it but I thought it was utter gash. Supposed to be ultra realistic, but I know what would really happen if there was a loose cannon bomb disposal expert disobeying orders and running around Iraqi towns at night on his own!

May 26, 201214 yr Black Hawk Down too was top. Have you read the book? Unputdownable and the bits about the snipers Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon are so intense but ultimately so heartbreaking. One of the best books I've ever read. Gives you a lot more insight into the whole operation.
