Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Cotoneaster Horizontalis. Should have red berries later in the year. Black birds eat them iirc. Part of the Rosaceae family. Fairly fast grower. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 If you have access to an apple or pear tree this time of year; stand under it and keep still. The hum is incredible from all those honey producers. Quote

Seems mega colourful and big this year. Good spring. Should get plenty of pollination. Just need some rain and a reasonable summer to ensure ripening and a good crop. Strangely, some varieties will have a good year then a poorer one almost regularly. As if they just need a rest. I've got a discovery which is an early variety, so good up north, and it always gives a good crop. Last year saw a number fall and rot because of the wet weather. Depending upon where your tree is, it's worthwhile giving them a feed. Mulching with some muck in late winter, or some other (organic) fertiliser. Quote
