DomRepWanderer Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 No not another Coyle out thread, but you would think that having Sammy Lee on board would give the club some better options, lets face it Sammy Lee the Manager was disaster, but Sammy Lee the coach was a masterstroke by Allardyce, we had our best years under them two, Gartside needs to put his foot down, and get rid of the whole Burnley entourage, which is probably accountable for a large slice of the wage bill, Coyle and Lee will oversee a quick return to where we belong, of that I am sure. Thoughts. Quote
pato Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 What we need is a more defensive minded coach to balance the more reckless attitude of the coaching staff Quote
MACCA Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Would love to see Phil Brown come back as a coach. However he's so far up his own arse I bet hes applied for the Liverpool job! Quote
Henry_VIII Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Sammy Lee is the best coach at the club. Triple fact with cherries on top. Quote
SeanBW Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 My thoughts are who the coach is doesn't really matter. With Allardyce and the quality players we had at the time we'd still have qualified for Europe with the tubby Burnley kitman putting the cones out on the training pitch. Give Allardyce/Lee a midfield of Mark Davies/Eagles/Petrov and Reo Coker with a front two of Ngog and Davies and we'd still be worse than Wigan Quote
Biggish Dave Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 What we need is a more defensive minded coach to balance the more reckless attitude of the coaching staff Agreed - Big Eck is a crap manager but might be pretty good as a defensive coach Quote
jules_darby Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Sammy Lee is undoubtedly a great Coach and I agree he'd be great with the first team However, as mentioned before by someone genuinely ITK about this, his appointment directly related to the Academy getting a certain standing / rating / grading due to his qualifications/experience - I don't know if that standing is changed by: Us not being in the Prem if he moved to first team/squad duties Maybe our ITK member on this will be along later to tell us.... tylswhite Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 From what ive been told its not the backroom staff its Coyle. He doesnt listen to anyone and doesnt like being told what to do and generally does things how he feels best and thats that. Quote
DazBob Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 What we need is a coach who can teach the team how to defend Amended for you. Quote

Gumbo Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 As mentioned above SL has been brought in to enhance the Academy becoming a Category 1 in the new EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan). At present this is still the plan. Sunderland do a good brief over view and are on a par with us at Academy level. http://www.safc.com/page/EPPP Quote

passmosster Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 As mentioned above SL has been brought in to enhance the Academy becoming a Category 1 in the new EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan). The spin on the Academy improving so much is just that for me. The best youth team/ Reserves that we have had for the last 10 years was about 3/4 years ago under Chris Sulley and Jimmy Phillips. The Reserves were especially well coached by Jimmy and came top of the Reserve League North. And the youth team nearly won the Academy League. Obadeyi was scoring for fun and was an England Under 19 International. We had youth internationals in Sissons (England), the two Polish lads, Fojut and Augustyn, Wolze was a fixture in the Germany u19 (no mean feat). Harsanyi looked a good prospect. There were 2 Australian lads, Jamieson and one other who looked useful. What happened? It all disappeared like the head on a pint of beer when you are eating crisps. Helped in no little way by Alan Cork and Megson's unwillingness to give youth a chance. They either pissed off like the foreign boys or regressed alarmingly, e.g. Obadeyi and Harsanyi who were turned from promising strikers into poor wingers. We just don't seem to bring prospects through. I am not convinced that Coyle will either. He seems to prefer loaning players from big clubs. I am quite surprised that Bennett and Caton have gone too. Suppose that Bennett must have regressed in Scotland but Caton was quite a smart winger. Someone mentioned attitude problems, but those should be sorted quick. Quote

Th +1 for me. I am still surprised that Coyle was'nt forced to change his backroom staff last Autumn when the writing was beginning to appear on the wall. Quote

Ani Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Given we have today released 15 players and we are told that the club has to reduce the wages bill it would be criminal if some of the savings did not come from cutting the back room staff. It is getting like the NHS, cut the doctors and nurses but the managers all still have jobs. Quote
