frank_spencer Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Have no issue with Freeman coming in. However if we are bringing him in, i'm not sure he's that much better an option than sticking with Philips Quote
onefinfrandsen Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 If its true and gartside has offered freedman the job on a decent contract then whether its the right choice or not we should give pg some credit for showing some ambition. as has been said on here its crucial we get it right this time. of course it all could be smoke screen and mm will get the gig. no balls Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 If it is him, could we please give him a lap when he arrives? Maybe I'm more of an eternal optimist than I thought, but could we please give him a chance? Quote
bolty58 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Have to agree with others. Prefer an experienced man like Holloway or McCarthy than a promising upstart. Too big a decision to take too big a risk with. If you were staying in South London you'd be better off at Millwall or Charlton than Crippled Alice. Quote
Heb 7:4 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 He wouldn't have been my choice but I wont bore everyone with Keith Hill again. No idea if he will be good enough for us or not either. The job he has done at Palace though is incredible. Saying they came 17th last season doesn't do him justice. They were one of the favs to go down and were never in trouble. In the summer he lost 3 of his beat players Darren Ambrose, Sean Scannel and captain Nathan Clyne. He hardly got any of the money to replace them and they looked even more certain to go down this season, we all know where they are now. Its only short of two years but I can only judge him on the time he has served. He has overachieved massively in that time. Zaha and Williams aside, if you sold the rest of his squad, you would have less than we turned down for Mark Davies in the summer! The job he did last year was indeed incredible (because we were a mess following administration and Burley) but a lot of what you write isn't quite accurate. Clyne was only a kid, and was never our captain. Dougie chose to sell Scannell and Ambrose, both fan favourites, because he didn't think they fit into the team (howls of protest at the time, yet he's been proved right as we are much much better now than we were with them in the team). It's pleasing to see he isn't rated too much on here, as I'd rather we stayed under the radar. It is true he'd be a gamble though. He got a lot more time to get things right than another manager would have, because of his status as a legend. Not sure other fans without history would have been so patient. Still looks at our end like he's using it to get a better contract, which frankly he deserves and we'd all be happy with. Have heard you approached two other young managers, but not sure who? Quote

Apologies, had it in my head he was captain. Did he fill in due to injuries or suspensions at any point last year as pretty sure I rememeber him captaining you? Maybe one of the cup games or Millwall/Boro/Brighton at home? Quote

snowball Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Ok I hear all the misgivings about Freedman but wouldn't Holloway be a big gamble as well? I was hoping to get Holloway but the more I think about it he could end up being Coyle Mk2. Ok done a reasonable job with Blackpool but has he taken them much further than before he arrived? Won a play off but couldnt keep them in Prem.Talks a good game but defensively I don't rate them that much. Didn't do much at Leicester (a bigger club) so perhaps Holloway might be a bigger gamble than some are thinking. Quote
Bigtoe Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Most importantly if we get Douglas Freedman, will he be sporting a shorts and pulled up sock combo or a smart suit - like a proper manager. Quote
Krimzon Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 D. Freedman could always and can still fuck off, dont want him at my club. Quote
snowball Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 D. Freedman could always and can still fuck off, dont want him at my club. I feel that way about that thick Yorkshire pillock. Please not him, would much rather have DF or almost anyone else. Quote
emus wig Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 What he said .Him and Geoff boycott doing the professional Yorkshireman bit ,fuck off. Quote
waffer cup 07 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 (edited) Don't want Mick ( the jobs mine if i want it ) Mc Carthy, arrogant prick, not sure about Freeman, id be surprised if he left Palace. It would never be dull under Hollaway. There's no outstanding candidates, but if there was would they want to come to Bolton. Just checked Palaces stats. Is Freeman from the Coyle school of football tactical genius's, Palace have conceeded more goals than us. Edited October 22, 2012 by waffer cup 07 Quote
Biggish Dave Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I'd be ok with Dougie if he comes. Yes, he lacks managerial experience but he has Lennie Lawrence as his number 2 down there and could have Sammy Lee up here or bring L.L with him - either way, 2 vastly experienced football people. I'd certainly welcome him more than big mick or Mcleish - lets give him a go Quote
DazBob Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Freedman has very little chance of getting Palace promoted. Even if he were to somehow get them up they'd have no money to spend and would come straight back down. There is little doubt he loves the club and the club's fans love him, but if he is ambitious... and dare I say it, "hungry", then IMO he'll opt to join us. I'm not kidding myself that we're a 'big' club in any way, shape or form, but he's got the chance to work with arguably the best squad in the division with a ground and facilities he can only currently dream of. We've also got a backer who has showed in the past that he'll put his hands in his pockets*. (* apart from when Drogba, Eto'o and Ribery were available for about £500k for all three of them, the tight cunt.) As I've said before, the thought of us getting Freedman doesn't even give me a semi, never mind actually get me excited, but there really aren't a great deal of options out there at present and maybe, just maybe he could be a revelation. Let's not write him off as a #shitmanager before he's even stood on the pitch with our scarf above his head. Quote
Garrp Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 palace give us permission to speak to Dougie Quote
burndenpaddock Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I hope this doesn't come off, it just smacks of Coyle to me. Reasonable success at a less successful club than ours over a short period of time does not mean success for us or mean that he's one for the future. I'd be quite happy with Jimmy/Sam/Julian to keep us going until someone a bit more experienced becomes available. Quote

I'd be quite happy with Jimmy/Sam/Julian to keep us going until someone a bit more experienced becomes available. Such as who? Anyone in mind? Presumably this experienced person who becomes available will only be available due to doing badly where he currently is... It seems we're either going to have to take a punt on someone who's a.) relatively inexperienced or b.) experienced but at a lower level than we're currently at or c.) failed at their last job. Quote
burndenpaddock Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I have no idea. It's just a personal opinion, Freedman seems to be flavour of the month at the moment, like Coyle was after a good one and a half seasons with Burnley and look how that turned out for us. I honestly don't know who I want in but I do think we've got enough experience in the current set up to give Gartside/Davies time to evaluate who our next manager should be, rather than rushing in to a 'risky' appointment. Guest Frandsen08 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 hes only speaking to him at the moment, he may be on a list of potential managers he wants to speak to Quote
Sweep Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 (edited) I'm not overly excited about the prospect of Freedman, but there really isn't all that much out there that is any better (that would actually want to come to us) Anyway, have we decided what we are going to call him when we need to hound him out? Doggie Freakman Out! Edited October 22, 2012 by CWP Quote
barryk32 Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 but a lot of what you write isn't quite accurate. Garrp in talking bollocks shocker. Quote

When you look at Palace's results from Christmas to the end of last season, the similarity between him and Coyle becomes all too apparent. But he can talk well. Haven't we seen that before? I expect that he will be appointed nevertheless. Quote
DazBob Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Well, if, as we've already seen, "McCarthy" can be turned into "McCuntface" then the world really us our lobster. Cunty Pisscan out. Quote
