MalcolmW
I stayed near Northampton on the Friday evening and drove to Crystal Palace NSC for a national road relay on the Saturday. There were a couple of diversions on the South Circular because of fallen trees. Then in the grounds of the sports centre loads of trees were down, and were not being removed as public roads were priority. So the course had to altered on the day to avoid the various blockages. Probably pissed, I dont remember. You need to meet coach numbers Graham though. He'll tell you all about the winter of 1960 something....a lot of times. That was worserer. Bless him 1963. Frost every night from Boxing Day '62 to 10th March, and lots of snow and ice.

MalcolmW
Sounds like every winter here in the mountains of East Lancashire. My uncle was a gas engineer in County Durham. Got fed up of being called out at 2am to supervise repairs to leaking mains, so in 1964 he took a lecturing post in gas technology at Leeds Poly.
