Favourite Personal Sporting Achievement

When I were a lad I did a few decent sporting things, such as swimming for Bolton and taking 5 for 5 for school, but my very favourite was my analysis in a 3rd team game, c1977

10-8-2-1

I hated conceding runs and the maidens were the last 8 overs.

Gumbo once hit BCM in Magaluf with a wayward shot from a 5-aside pitch nearby (accidentally)

At school, sporting wise, i thought i was good at everything, and loved being out in the cold and wet kicking, throwing or catching things. But cross country i hated with a passion. One day our PE teacher put us in teams of 3 for a cross country relay. I had two other lads (David Marsh & Paul Barlow) who hated running just as much as me. We only went on to win the thing. Never forget it. Rupert's jaw hit the floor.

My debut in my primary school football team. We played Crompton Fold away. I was right back and wasn't overawed playing in front of a hostile crowd of six people. We won 2-0 and i cleared one off the line. Women and booze ruined my career from that day on.
