I've not heard a reasonable argument against Lennon....other than he used to play for and manage Celtic. I know some folk have said he's "horrible" - what has he done that is so wrong? - has he been eating babies or something?

I'd say the main thing against is the fact he's only ever managed in a pub league

I like the thought of being hated again under Lennon - just the way we like it and it would galvanise support if we get on a role.

He's a big risk for me though if it starts going wrong I can imagine it going very wrong very quickly as he'll be as abrasive as Megson I'd imagine - he is going to be the classic Bovril appointment so it's very very risky I just cant see Gartside going that way with so much riding on it. I'd much rather go Lennon that Hughton, Hughton doesn't inspire anything in me at all.

I love the quote earlier from Rioch re Mowbray that's good enough for me - and all the candidates I think will get immediate respect over the players which is 100% key in this appointment they have got to believe in the new man, if they don't very early on we're bolloxed

All things considered Brown has as much experience/success as any of the other main candidates and a passion for the club.

Any appointment has an element of risk and given the clubs position at the moment, Brown would have an initial galvanising effect on the fans and that could be very important for getting us out of the shite.

He also gave a good brief c.v. resume on SSN this morning

I've just seen him on TV & wondered if he'd been sleeping in the doorway of a take away for a few weeks.

I've just seen a picture of his mug on BBC Sport, I hope they're having a badger cull nearby his dogwalking spot, with any luck he might get a hundredweight of buckshot fired into his behind.

I thought Mowbray last week - I still think Mowbray now, even more so now I know about the Rioch endorsement, just feels right in my gut. If Hughton comes in and gets off to a bad start, the fans will be all over him, largely because by the sounds of things, his team's are set up to play in a similar way to Dougies. I dislike Lennon. I don't have any reasons other that he looks like a little shite and that's about as scientific as I get on the issue.

That said, 100% full backing for whoever comes in. Just fingers crossed its our Tony!

How many managers have said similar of their captain? I presume this Rioch quote dates from his (Mowbray's) playing days...

Taggart might have said similar of Paul Ince or Roy Keane, we wouldn't want them either...

I fear the interview process may be as such...

What do you think of the current squad?

Right answer - Positive comments, tiny criticisms but with reassurances they can put this right.

Wrong answer - Anything other than the above.

How would you improve the squad, what players are on your radar?

Right answer - We'll go with what we have.

Wrong answer - Anything other than the above.

What about wages, what about backroom staff?

Right answer - £500 quid a week cash in hand and I'll work with what you've got.

Wrong answer - Anything other than the above.

Step forward, new manager of BWFC, Iain Dowie.

As Gonzo wrote, Freedman was way out until shortly before he was appointed, Megson came from nowhere - I wouldn't take much notice of the bookies or journos, especially national ones - probably just giving their own angle on the bookies odds using hearsay.

Gartside has admitted his hand was forced somewhat into dismissal (either by supporter pressure or Dougie's last death gasp ''The players are wank'' comment) - I'd take from this that the goal this season is financial/off-field and the one aim football-wise is to stay in this league, nowt more...

Perhaps we should've saved a new manager dead-cat bounce until nearing the end of the season (like Malc said) if we go with an uninspiring choice...

you know when they do these specials on Top Gear, and they each have a car to race across Iraq or some such god forsaken country. There is always a really shit "back up" car seen lurking in the distance that scares them.

I see Iain Dowie as that back up car, he's just hanging around on the horizon, I'm dreading the day when we need to call him in

Mackay still in running according to bolton news. Report was wrong

The Bolton news really are piss poor how do they get something so important completely wrong? FWIW I think Mackays chance is remote for the reasons I stated before. And I think 33/1 a fair reflection of his chance.

Meh ...... another Scot (though Rioch was great), no experience of managing in English leagues, managing in a (basically) 2-club league. I'll support him, and he probably has all the character & strength we need right now. Let's see if it's true and what happens. Appointing a new manager is always a risk, but sometimes it has to be done.

You do realise Lennon isn't Scottish?

Unless you were talking about Malky - in which case - carry on.
