At the time that she won the Olympics, having been the poster-girl for the Games (so no pressure then), SheffU were very pleased that she was a Blades supporter, although she had never been to a match. In the post-Games hysteria, they were only too willing to use her name. Now both she and the club have been backed into a corner by this escapade.

It was a ludicrous decision and a desperate attempt by Sheffield Utd to jump on the Olympics bandwagon.

What I do know, however, is that plenty of other footballers have been accused and found not uilty. Ronaldo being about the highest profile. But as I said earlier, things will change massively if his appeal fails. Then it's a case of getting a career back at all costs. Tears on Football Focus, breakfast telly remorse, the whole works. Or he could get the verdict turned. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.
