Mummy Spider has now been in hospital with it for nearly 3 weeks.

 

Anyone else had relatives with a bad case of this? She's really rather poorly but I need to prepare for when she get out, how long it takes to recover to good health etc.

 

I've googled etc but asking folk who know about it is always best. The doctors just look at me like I'm some sort of foreigner when I ask........

All joking apart, pneumonia is a nasty fucker that can take ages to get better from.

 

They reckon in an average healthy adult, six weeks is the expected recovery time.

PS the doctors look at you like a foreigner, because you are one to them.

I don't know you, your mum or bugger all about pneumonia but hope she makes a swift recovery.

I had it when I was 18. Popping pills, dancing all night and then going to work on the market at 6am in the same sopping wet clothes (jeans and t-shirt) isn't advisable. I was poorly for about 4 weeks.

 

Hope your mum makes a similar, speedy recovery.

She's in the best possible place, like people have said it's a fucker and she could take a while to recover.

My wife had it a few years ago and spent about 10 days in Royal Bolton. It takes it out of them for weeks after though. Look after her when she comes out. She'll be knackered.

Was diagnosed in Cyprus a few years back, hospitalised for 10 days. Wouldn't let me fly home. Th'insurance company arranged for a nurse to fly out. Business class  back to Heathrow (oxygen on standby). Private ambulance from Heathrow to my front door. Thank fook I took it out. Was back to normal, after taking it very easy, in a month or so.

Ill find some stuff out off my mum tomorrow spiders. She's a nurse and my great auntie just had it.

Wouldn't Business Class and a Private Ambulance be against your principles?

When my mum had a stroke she was taken to no hope hospital, then in their wisdom they transferred to her to bolton in the early hours of a freeIng cold January morning. 3 days later she we dead and the cause was aspirated pneumonia. No hope closed ranks and denied any responsibility

Don't know the first thing about it and I hope I never do going off what these lot have said, but I hope yer mam makes a full healthy recovery Spider real fast. She's in the best place to be, peace of mind for you and your kid too

Gran beat off numerous strokes.. Cancer twice and c-diff... Scarily hard woman

 

Unfortunately it was pneumonia that dud it in the end whilst she was in for a broken hip..

 

It's worse when someone's recovering but hospitals the best place for them.

I had it a good few years back, wiped me out for about a month. I was actually relieved to have it as they first thought I might have TB. Hope she's better soon Spids.

NHS do a vaccination (often in tandem with the flu jab) apparently it's a one off job but I'm not sure about eligibility apart from over 60's, diabetics and folk with fucked up immune systems being eligible. Worth an enquiry though.

I had it around 3 years ago- tried shifting 3 tonne of top soil and wondered why it was so tough!

 

A couple of ladies that I do gardens for have had it this year too.

 

Depends upon how quick they diagnose and start treating it, and how healthy the individual is.

 

Plenty of antibiotics and a few weeks rest and she'll be reet. Make sure she doesn't try to do too much too soon- even if she gets bored

I should explain, you know sometimes when you need a poo but can't make the bog? So you stand still and just coax the rope back from the brink (it's quite pleasant).

 

Well I was busy doing that when I read this post and the action all went wrong and there was a definite turtles head.

My mum had it about 6 years ago and it took her a few weeks to get over it. She was however of the age where you didn't make a fuss and she was sure a glass of Lucozade would put her right.
